The restaurant is located in an impressive garden with a lake and many different animals - ducks, swans, peacocks, cats ... The food is very good, although not exactly Japanese, but rather a fusion with mixed flavors from all over Asia. The service was excellent....I highly recommend it, especially on hot summer days.More
I give it 3 stars as a total of two separate ratings.
As a normal restaurant in Sofia: 5/5
As a Japanese restaurant: 1/5
As a normal restaurant:
The staff is nice, they smile and take your order promptly. The interior of the restaurant is...very good and there really isn't anything to complain about. Nice views of the pretty garden. You can see they really put a lot of effort and money into making the setting look good.
As a Japanese restaurant:
This is something I have to write because a lot of people are praising the restaurant for it "authentic" Japanese food - the food has practically nothing to do with ACTUAL Japanese food. There are a few dishes that you might encounter in Japan, but 95% of the menu is basically something you'd find at Happy or Sasa; vaguely inspired by Japanese food and with some ingredients being the same, but that is where it ends.
The list of things wrong with the food (only in terms of calling it "authentic Japanese") is too long to list here, but for anyone who actually wants to try real Japanese food, there are astronomically better options in Sofia.
Just to reiterate: As a normal restaurant, it is really nice. The food tastes good, the restaurant is pretty, and the staff is friendly. As a Japanese restaurant, it has got nothing to do with actual Japanese food.
If you go to this restaurant, fall in love with the food, and then plan to visit Japan, you will be in for a big surprise when you go there and see what Japanese food actually is.
And if you are someone who has spent time in Japan and are missing real Japanese food, you will be utterly disappointed if you go to Umami.More
This is the best sushi i had so far in Sofia. House wine was also nice, good combination with sushi.
Service was good and fast. Waiters are hospitable. I am not sure about their level of English because they were not keen to speak in...English but we could speak Bulgarian so we did not have this problem, i hope they would be able to manage somehow.
Place is interesting, decorated in Japanese style and i am sure that experience is much better when weather is nice and it is possible to enjoy the view of the garden. We had a bit of issue finding an entrance but it was worth it.
Make sure you have reservation before coming here.More
That's a great place! I would absolutely visit again.
The food is very delicious! I liked the wine that I had. Our waitress was very friendly and professional which is rare these days, so I am pleasantly surprised.
I am so impressed by the sushi!...I don't think there's a better sushi place in Sofia.
The desserts were the perfect ending to our evening.More
Too much wait for drins, ice, sushi, dessert. Need more personal. Too expensive for this service 👎 The waitress give me Uzo and ice after 15 min. We must order two or three times for everything on different people. Very bad. Sushi is good and...the place is beautiful but...More
Almost impossible to get a reservation at the same day or the day before but if you can get one, you will not regret it! One of the best restaurants in Sofia. Amazing view, service, food.
Everything perfect! I loved the sushi, pimentos padron, the...desert and the Rose!
I will be back for sureMore
The atmosphere is incredibly cozy and romantic. The food is to die for- incredibly delicious and unique. I've been here twice already and each time I am wow-ed. The waiters are very polite and cheerful as well.
