Wow! We are Americans and trust trip advisor to choose a restaurant this was a big win! We had the fillets and split a plate. Service was awesome and no problem to split. This was truly a gourmet meal by all standards. Do yourself a...favor and seek out this little gym.More

We stopped for lunch based on a recommendation and were so impressed we returned a second day. The first day we shared a salad and a smoke salmon sandwich with wasabi both of which were flavorful and carefully prepared. The second day we enjoyed the...fish which included long basmati rice with nuts and vegetables. Once again an excellent meal. The flam dessert was a special finish to the meal. All the food is carefully prepared before our eyes. Everyone is extremely friendly. For a first class meal I recommend Estrecho.More

Great location in the middle of old town, we stopped in for lunch which is appropriate for counter seating. Active attentive staff, fun to watch and talk to. Creative, innovative, fresh and healthy food, with a good wine selection.

The wait staff and chef were all smiles with noted professionalism, even happily speaking English. The food was excellent as previous reviews report. We had spicy pad Thai and spicy Thai soup for starters, and a shrimp based broth for starters and their usual white...fish, although I should have taken the daily special of the same fish as it was spicier. Depends on your palate. Highly recommended - too bad only open for lunch!More

Simply an excellent meal. Montevideo appears slim on fine-dining options, but this is top caliber food that would fit in a white tablecloth setting, but delivered in a casual space. Must try Seating is all at a counter in a narrow building, food is cooked...and prepared right in front of you lunch-counter style. The place is run by a husband/wife team who introduced themselves to us when they heard we were from the US. He apparently lived in Nashville for 10 years. They are in the restaurant and making your food, and do a great job. I had the filets, cooked perfectly. Paired with a nice dry tannant wine, the local varietal you will no doubt become familiar with in Montevideo. Located in Ciudad Vieja, so if you are touring it is worth a stop while you are walking around the district. Ciudad Vieja also is home to many local business offices, so the lunch crowd is alot of locals on break. Always a good sign for a lunch spot. This is a place that knows quality food and knows how to prepare a no-fluff, top quality experience for a reasonable price. A bit more expensive than average eatery in town, but well worth it.More

Estrecho is a gastro bar which is open for lunch. I usually dont have one but this week I am having classes nearby and by lunchtime starving! It is a gem. Great value for money. Fine cuisine, not french style portions) soup and main and...you will be rolling. But having a dessert on top will be a cherry of the cake. Worth the pain 😂More

I recommend the filet mignon! The desserts & wine were also outstanding! Don't miss out on one of the best Uruguayan Tannat's I've ever drank. And the location couldn't be better!

Local friends recommended this place that we had overlooked. Estrecho means narrow, and the description is apt. Seating is at one long bar. The chef and several cooks were preparing food in front of us in the extremely open kitchen while waitstaff squeezed behind each...other to deliver the lovely plates of food. I commented on the tomato soup and one of the cooks came by to explain the entire recipe to me. The menu is based on local meat and fish but easily adapted to vegetarian diners.More

We went for lunch with my sister and brother-in-law who spend time in the winter (Northern Hemisphere winter) in Montevideo. The food was excellent. I had a sea bass that the menu said was to come with tabouleh, but without hesitation said I could put...it with any of the other sides they had. Fish was perfectly cooked. Service was very friendly. The layout is like a lunch counter but it was very intimate and quite enjoyable.More

The quality of the food and service of this restaurant is way beyond what I would have expected from Montevideo. This restaurant could compete in any of the major metropolitan cities such as NYC and be one of the best. The husband and wife team...running it have found great staff that deliver on a great experience. I loved all of the food we tried. It is a lunch counter setup so be prepared to wait for seating. It is worth the wait. Save room for dessert as their pastry chef is legit.More
