Excellent food and service

As a Uruguayan leaving abroad, every time I travel back to Uruguay to visit family and friends, having proper "parrilla" it's a must for me, I usually go to La Otra and it never disappoints. Great servcie, food, and atmosphere. It's a qutie simple place, no luxury but it really doesn't matter because the food is absolutely fantastic. I used to live a few blocks away from La Otra before I relocated ot Europe and at very beginning it was even simpler....just food, no desserts, no wines and they accepted only cash. Is great to see how they evolved adding desserts and wines to the menus what makes the dining experience even more enjoyable.

Friendly atmosphere with a lot of locals

Really enjoyable visit. We got it relatively early and got a table but it soon got full. The menu was good and the steaks weren’t too big, which was good! They didn’t have any ribeye left but provided a sirloin instead. Both our steaks were perfectly cooked (one rare, one medium). Good wine list with a lot of Uruguayan Tannat to choose from. Friendly service and good value for money. Recommended

Another great experience at La Otra

As a Uruguayan leaving abroad, every time I travel back to Uruguay to visit family and friends, having proper "parrilla" it's a must for me, I usually go to La Otra and it never disappoints. This time was the same, and experience was absolute perfect. Great servcie, food, and atmosphere. It's a qutie simple place, no luxury but it really doesn't matter because the food is absolutely fantastic. I used to live a few blocks away from La Otra before I relocated ot Europe and at very beginning it was even simpler....just food, no desserts, no wines and they accepted only cash. Is great to see how they evolved adding desserts and wines to the menus what makes the dining experience even more enjoyable. In terms of price, it is not cheap, at least for local standards. In my case, used to pay London prices and considering that when you pay with a foreign card you get VAT refunded, I found prices quite ok. In short, a place I can strongly recommend.

Watch for the hidden charge

Went for supper last night based on the reviews and have to say not disappointed in t food or service. However when the bill came i did question a charge for "Cubiertos" times 2 as it wasn't something we ordered. I was told this was a standard charge in Uruguay restaurants so dismissed the 240.00 peso charge. The bill also included a tax and a tip so I don't understand why the try to hide this "cutlery charge" in the middle of your bill.

Okay quality, rude staff

Was disappointed by the staff and their attitude. We ordered the tasting menu which on the menu says has 3 pieces of meat for the main, we only received 2, when we asked the waitress about this when he came over for our desert order she said we did receive 3 pieces. She then sent over the main waiter who told us we were lying, at the end of the meal he had the cheek to ask for a tip. Although this tainted our experience I wouldn't say the food was especially good anyway.

The best experience in Montevideo..

This place has been recommended by our hotel and it was an unforgettable experience for us. We were amazed by the whole concept starting from the great housemade warm bread and 3 sides (amazing triples) Provolenge classico, rib eye (the best of best), beef de lomo ( very good), baked potato with roquefort cheese and of course flan desert. Thanks to James otherwise we couldnt communicate anyone. He is a great guy! 🙏🏻 For us a retaurant is good if we desire to go again. La otra is a place I will miss out and come again for sure. Love from Istanbul.

Bad experience

An older guy, I think he is in charge of the servers wanted to seat me in a really small table in between 2 larger tables , it was 1 hour before closing time and the place was 3/4 emptied I ask the old guy for another table and he was rude and obnoxious . Is not worth the money . Too many good places in Montevideo where you have good service .

So glad we listened to the rave reviews of other travelers and booked our last dinner in Montevideo here. The owner was so welcoming to everyone who walked through the doors. We enjoyed a fabulous rib eye steak and salad. Perfect! Wines by the glass were very nice and service was excellent.

Amazing chorizos and meat

We had a dinner here on a late Sunday evening. Service was cheerful, correct and the recomendations for what to eat was spot on. The chorizos and the pulpo was amazing. The morcilla slightly undercooked for my taste. Some more cabrenet Sauvignon choices would also have been welcommed but the one we had was good.

Fantastic parrilla

Fantastic parrilla (grill) in quiet neighbor a fair hike from Rambla. Has locals feel. Cozy inside, sidewalk tables outside. Friendly staff. Wood fired grill. Excellent meat choices. It is well worth exploring to find this gem.

Proper Parilla, Great Service and Food

Otra is a proper parilla, and worthy of our four visits in a three week span. The Chef and his staff are all about service. The wine list is affordable and varied. Steaks and sausage are delicious. The sweetbreads are, without a doubt, spectacular.

Great Food, Well Prepared

Went here for dinner 3 times during our two weeks in Montevideo. They have great beef, well prepared. Grilled vegetables are excellent too. Nice selection of local wines/beers. Prices are reasonable. Busy spot, popular with locals. Outdoor seating as well as indoor seating.

Good restaurant but still disappointed!

Went three times in three nights because we liked it so much. On third night ordered the tasting menu as it was our last night in Montevideo. We complained because not all of it came. No joy. Still a good restaurant but left a bad taste.

Great food. Great service.

Stopped in for dinner on a slow Monday night. Sat outside and really enjoyed watching life go by in the neighbourhood. Our server was fantastic. We shared some small plates and a bottle of Uruguay white. The food was perfect. We will go back.

Excellent steakhouse!

Had the largest portion of sweetbreads I have ever had here. Delicious if that is your thing. Very nice tradition short ribs too. Very friendly service and a nice building as well.
