Best parrilla experience in Uruguay! We had just come from Argentina where we had great meat in parrilas in Buenos Aires and Calafate. We liked it so much, we went back a week later in our way out of the country. Servings are generous; do not order an entree for each person (that'd be a huge mistake). The menu at... More

With so many options at El puerto, this is a good one. I don't think this is the best place in Montevideo to eat meat, but it is definitely a must go while visiting. From all the restaurants there I've found this to be the most consistent one in quality and service. Prices are high but average for the place... More

As most visitors to Montevideo we went to the market and had lunch at one of the restaurants there. When the food finally came I had a delicious risotto with mushrooms, but it was a long wait. The atmosphere was good, but I don't think I would go back.

At 15h00 this place had a queue out of the entrance and that is usually a good sign. It was. Entrecôte was terrific, prepared exactly to order. Service was brisk and efficient despite being vey busy.

This place is very close to the port a bit touristy but wow! the steak I had was amazing, I can honestly say it's the best I've had in years. This is not your USDA corn, hormone and antibiotic fed beef. This is the real deal, grass fed and one can taste the difference. Well worth the money.

"Go to El Palenque...just across the road" .... we had been advised by more than one local person to our question where to have lunch, when we got off our cruise ship at the dock in Montevideo....and believing in listening to local advice, we did just that and found it was a great place indeed! We ate well...the Uruguayan beef... More

We had lunch here and sat upstairs near the window and people watched. I had the fish and my wife the steak. Both were very good. Would go back.

I'm not sure how a person decides which restaurant to eat at in the Mercado del Puerta. When we were there it was a Saturday afternoon and they were all busy. 2 seats opened up at the bar at El Palenque and we seated ourselves. We watched the grill just full of meat of every kind as we drank our... More

we were in the mercado puerta for lunch and tested the reputation of el palenque as the best steak house in montevideo - and it almost got there. the beef was very ok but not as tender as in other restaurants but it was grilled exactely to the point as ordered. the service is friendly, esp Daniel, the waiter for... We went for a late lunch. The restaurant is on the outer perimeter of the famous Mercado - a must see warren of restaurants and bars. This is the most up-market of them. Service and food was excellent.

Description
In our grill, a big variety of courts, meats of calf meat, lamb, pork, kidney, sausages and trip are grilled daily. The fishes and seafood arrive directly from the port, so do the vegetables and fresh fruits from the garden. Although -we have to recognize it- our more important ingredient is you.
