My husband and I had been told about this place and were super excited to go. We loved it! A huge recommend from us. Here's the low down:
First up, this restaurant is in the Surquillo neighborhood, just across the expressway from Miraflores. Tons of...reviews are like, "Don't walk/bad neighborhood!" I couldn't disagree more. We walked from our hotel in Miraflores and had ZERO issues. The area the restaurant is in is more "local" and more industrial than Miraflores, but we felt totally safe the entire time.
The bar opens as early as 10:30 am. I believe we got there around 10:45 am, under the impression they start serving at 11 am. Nope, food service begins at 12 noon. I still recommend going early. We got put on a list, sort of. No one actually took our name at that time but they remembered us when we came back and we were one of the first to be seated. But I'm sure you could leave your name, they have a hostess. To kill time, first we went to a small, cute coffee shop across the street and had a coffee. Then we ended up walking back over to the Indian Market Miraflores and I bought a nice scarf. We wandered back around 11:40 am and had a drink at the bar. We had pisco negronis, which were awesome!
Shortly after 12 noon we were seated. The restaurant is airy and modern with wooden tables. There's a huge ice tray full of fish. We were told when the fish are sold out for the day, the restaurant closes! The fish and their weights are listed on a chalkboard. We asked our server's advice on which fish and which size to get and went with their recommendation. We also got an order of scallops on the shell.
The food was terrific! One of the best meals we had in Peru (and maybe one of my favorite meals of all time). The restaurant prepares the fish three ways: ceviche, grilled with an excellent sauce, and a soup from the bones. The scallops were also fantastic. We were there 2.5 hours and totally stuffed by the end!
The cost is pricey for Peru. But we live in Los Angeles, so it seemed totally reasonable to us. A truly memorable lunch!More
