My daughter, son and I chose this restaurant because it was close to our hostel. It turned out to be a great choice. All 3 of us had different dishes and none of us was disappointed. The alpaca steak was divine as was the pork dish. And the Aji de Gallina was the best I had in Peru (and I... More

We visited here after a long day traveling, on the recommendation of a tour leader. The food was fantastic and the service attentive. Mains were approximate 40 sol which is great value for the quality. Highly recommended - best to make a reservation.

We had dinner. My husband and I were the only vegetarians in our group of 10. One of the best soups I have ever had was at Marcelo Batata. I did not know that soup could be that good. Rest of the food was excellent too but it was difficult to justify having any other food. Our companions had cui... More

We started our trip with lunch here on the roof. The view is a great introduction to the city and the food is really great. We had alpaca and it was great.

Tip: You need to call ahead and MAKE A RESERVATION if you want to dine at Marcelo Batata for dinner, even if it's on a weekday night or for an early dinner. My husband and I tried to dine at the restaurant on Sunday, May 25, 2014 at around 5:30PM but was unfortunately rejected. Even though the entire restaurant was... More

Marcelo Batata was recommended to us by our guide on the Lares Trek, as a great place to try cuy and alpaca, but also as a restaurant that puts a modern spin on Peruvian cuisine. The setting and service were wonderful - our waitress looked after us really well - and the food was great. I had cuy (guinea pig)... More

We just looked on TripAdvisor for good restaurants, and this one popes up within 300 meter. Never been so satisfied with food. Great staff, tasty food and nice restaurant with open kitchen and the opettunyti to dine on their roof top.

Our group of five had a wonderful dinner at Marcelo. The hummus plate was tasty, though we could have used a little more. A key reason to go is if you are interested in trying the alpaca steaks. Marcelo offers four or five different styles/sauces and cooks the steaks to order. If you are curious, alpaca tastes like a gamey... More

We ate a late lunch on the rooftop. It was a quiet retreat from the busy cusco streets. We both had the pork adobo and it was great. Very flavorful. I also had a ginger drink that was delicious. The waiter was attentive—poor guy had to keep coming up those stairs. The prices are good. You can certainly find great... More

Description
Our kitchen offers both tradtional and avant garde cuisine, always focusing on rediscovering age-old recipes that allow us to take yesterday's flavors to today's table. Our specialty is Criolle and Andean cuisine where we highlight the essence of this beautiful mix of varieties that provides us with an endless array of flavors and that each Peruvian carries in their veins. In appreciation for all products we utilize we allow ourselves to play with new flavors and sensations based on the immense diversity of native products available: aji (Peruvian chili pepper), distinct passion fruits, avocados, rice and corn varieties are some of our favorites to explore with. Slow cooking dishes and the high flames of our grill are our favorite preparation techniques to use here at Marcelo Batata.
