We really enjoyed eating at Zig Zag. The food was slightly unusual, a combination of Andean and Alpine cuisines. We had delicious seafood bruschetta as an appetiser then volcanic stone trio of meats and seafood with French fries and quinoa risotto respectively. It was delicious.

Great restaurant with reasonable prices. Preparation on baked stones is unique and impressive. Quality of the alpaca and duck was superb. Service was efficient but not in-your-face. I'd return if in Arequipa again.

I found this place because of the reviews on TripAdvisor and I wasn't disappointed. I had my hotel make a reservation, just in case, but when I showed up, my reserved table was right next to the bar/kitchen, so there was a ton of foot traffic. Not a very relaxing environment. I asked for another table and about 5-10 minutes... More

I had the quinoa soup and the three meats dish. Both were excellent and would recommend wholeheartedly. Good value as well, 85 soles total for a starter, large main and a cocktail at a clean and fancy place. Also the wait staff were attentive and friendly. I had one hell of a sodium hangover the next morning though, beware of... More

Just what a good night out at a restaurant should be about: great food with local influences, lively and bustling atmosphere, good service, nice location. Their signatory dish (the 3 meat platter including alpaca meat) is hearty but worth it!

Description
The Alpandina dishes offered by the Zig Zag Restaurant are the result of a creative culinary fusion deeply rooted in the mountains, where the sun endows foodstuffs with energy and balanced components. The dishes most representative of Alpandino gastronomy arise from a marvellous synthesis of unique time-hallowed ingredients from all over Peru, combined with ancient and modern culinary techniques from the Alps and the Andes. One of the results is our great speciality: Volcanic-Stone-Cooked Meats and Fish. This culinary concept was generated specially by the restaurant's proprietor and Chef, Michel Hediger from Switzerland. During the course of many years in Arequipa, Peru, he has developed an original gastronomic proposal which enables one to savour different kinds of food prepared in an exclusive, healthy and very natural style, so that the restaurant's customers might compare and enjoy the country's different flavours. Located in the Historic Centre of Arequipa, opposite the lovely Plaza San Francisco, the Zig Zag Restaurant, with its impressive cast iron staircase designed by the famous French architect Alexandre Gustave Eiffel, is a unique place to enjoy a gastronomic evening with a difference.
