This was our second visit to La Esquina and we hope our third visit comes sometime soon. The four of us, which included two guys with good appetites, split one meal and we were unable to finish it. We ordered the mixed meat platter, with...ribs. At $45, it is not cheap but can feed four or five people. The service and atmosphere at La Esquina are top-notch and they know their meats. You need to eat here!More

Enjoyed the ambiance and food. We ordered a fixed-price for two. Ample food and alcohol. Beef was delicious, as was the chicken, but the chicken was far too salty. Not cheap by Cuencan prices, but a worth a visit if special occasion or just enjoy...a good steak. Easy on the salt.More

Disappointed after eating at some really excellent restaurants like Tiestos and La Mercada. Ambience was super bright white lights, service was a bit surly and slow. Gin & tonic was so strong, hardly any tonic and no lime but included small blueberries (?) and huge...ball of ice. Husband got langostos & ravioli, I got same on risotto. Would not recommend; both so heavy. Also, not cheap! Ugh.More

We were celebrating our anniversary. The food atmosphere and service were all excellent. Great choice if you are celebrating a special occasion and looking for a cozy atmosphere. The deserts are also excellent.

So far, this is the best meal we’ve had in Ecuador. The prices at La Esquina are comparatively high, but the portions are massive. My wife and I typically share a meal anyway, but our dinner at La Esquina will provide us with five or...six servings after bringing it home. Before we ordered, the waiter brought us a nice plate of homemade bread and these interesting puffy air pockets on which we could apply four different really yummy sauces. We ordered the beef tenderloin La Esquina ($38) and asked that it be cooked rare. It was actually somewhere between rare and medium rare and was excellent. The meal came with FIVE 4-ounce cuts of filet mignon! The steak was served in a giant pan with melted cheese and an amazing sauce over the steaks and encircled by giant slices of fried potato. The meal was complemented with a really outstanding salad and a fluffy bowl of rice. For dessert, we ordered the “four milks“ custard; the flavor and presentation were fantastic! The restaurant was quiet as we were there early on a Wednesday. The service was extremely friendly and attentive. This is definitely a restaurant we plan to visit again.More

We had a lovely early dinner, the steak was tender and cooked to perfection with a Roquefort sauce, yummy. The sautéd vegetables were also delicious as well as the rustic fries. One little disappointment was that the waiter inadvertently, as we hope, short changed us...$10 on a $42 dollar tab. Just a tip for other tourists, when you give the waiter your cash, look him in the eye and say "Here is 60 dollars, I hope you can make change". That seems to help minimize any "misunderstandings".More

We managed to have perfect tea and late supper. Allthrue black tea was not available but we agreed that red is ok for tonight.

This restaurant was recommended to us, but it was a big disappointment. The service was bad—waiter was unfriendly and never inquired about the food. We ordered a steak to share for two that was mediocre and the salad had no creativity. Loud children didn’t help...our experience. The price for dinner was much too high for the quality of food and unfriendly waiter.More

I wrote a review here in 2015, giving this place 3-stars and saying we would likely not return. Well, 4 years later and we have heard enough recent good reviews from friends that we decided to try them again for a birthday dinner. The food...is still rather expensive, and is for special occasions. However, the food this time was fabulous! You can now order per-person if you wish. They do also have the "dinner for two people" though, on their "Iron Disc Tasting Menu" which we decided to try. There are two choices of entree (chicken or beef), and they allowed us to split so we had one of each, of which we then split (so that each of us had both the chicken and beef). It came with two glasses of wine for each of us, at a total of $60 fixed price. The food was perfectly cooked, and the beef was tender (uncommon in Cuenca...). The sauces were really what stole the show though, bringing the food from good to fabulous. This is definitely now on our short-list of places to take out-of-town friends in the future.More
