We thought that a small restaurant on Parque Calderon might be geared to tourists. Well El Cantaro is not, we are pleased to say. Not fancy, but clean. The $3.75 almuerzo was very very tasty, and filling. Large glass of pineapple juice, not overly sweetened,...More

We chanced into El Cantrell. We had vegetarian lasagna and a potato soup. Both were very good, and very reasonable.

This restaurant is conveniently located on the edge of Parque Calderon. We came here for lunch and managed to get a nice table at the window where we could people watch. We found the day’s almuerzo menu listed on the door with English translation. My...More

My wife and I went to this restaurant several years ago while on a short trip to Cuenca. Since moving here, we passed by El Cantaro several times without going in. Yesterday, we saw the lunch menu, it was very appealing so we went in....More

Antonio is a very gracious and flexible host. We greatly enjoyed drinks and the best freshly popped popcorn we have ever had while watching the Olympics and carefully analyzing the ongoing performances. This place is a great example of the fact that, in Cuenca, you...More

The place is nothing special. It has traditional Ecuadorean food for a descent price. The food itself does not taste bad, but is not fantastic. I would go there again. It has a great location!

I haven't actually eaten dinner here, but the two lunches and three stops in the late afternoon have been very good. Fairly typical, fairly average almuerzo at lunch time (but you can pay more and order from the menu). Nice tamales and locro -- which...More

This restaurant is handy for having a meal after spending time in the parks or churches in the area. I had a nice broccoli cream soup and sandwich. They have daily lunch specials which are the typical meals here in Cuenca.
