Most reviews here seem to refer to the breakfast fare, coffee, and pastry. We were with guests from Germany seeking Austrian or German cuisine. Very disappointed as the menu only offers goulash and a schnitzel from this cuisine. We had the lasagna bolognese, some mexican...tacos, and salad. Food and service was just passable – nothing noteworthy. It is a nice European style cafe.More

I stayed in a hotel a half a block away and ate there often Their breakfast (served the whole day) is excellent, because of the fabulous bread :) Their lunch is twice more expensive than in other places - it is $6.50 It is generally...good. All their food varies in quality. They do not apologize and offer no substitutes when something is wrong. Their wine is below average, but expensive. The worst part - excruciatingly slow and indifferent service AND they would not take a credit card unless your bill is over $20. Very inconvenient and very uncommon for the nowadays Cuenca. Mostly bad wifi connection Very nice atmosphere of a European cafe.More

We had dinner there and wasn't disappointed at either the service or the food. Our waitress was very attentive and my mochachino was delicious, even our beef schnitzel was excellent and tender. We often go to Cafe Austria for coffee when we are in the...area downtown.More

Conveniently located downstairs from our AirBnB, we wanted to love this place. Fresh fruit juice great. Beautifully made coffee nowhere near hot, and when we complained, nothing. Enjoyed the food: perfect spring omelette and pancakes were Swedish style, light and fluffy. But breakfast is about...coffee, and this is a cafe. Our first meal (breakfast) in Cuenca. Hope it gets better.More

Sorry about the coffee. Shouldn’t have happened. Our waiter wanted to change it for you but you had already drunk it completely when you complained!

Food very well prepared and presented. Local trout was excellent. Wish I had saved room for dessert apple strudel, Sacher torte, Linder torte .....

We happened to stop here as it was the only place in our surroundings opened on Sunday. The menu was interesting, different than what we’ve been eating for the past month traveling in Peru. The Goulash was excellent, as were the meat Tacos. The service...was very good. The next day was hubby’s bday, he wanted to return...so we did and was once again very happy with the food and service (same server) Very good desserts! Fully recommendMore

We always seem to stop at Cafe Austria when we're downtown on errands. The atmosphere is always excellent, the service is also and the food/pastries are excellent.

Had great lunch here. I had Taco’s Carne and my husband had Lasagna Bolognese. We had four slices of bread buttered with fresh herbs. Food very tasty and fresh. Also had couple glasses of wine. A little more expensive than most the restaurants in this...area for comparable food. Good service too so would recommend.More

According to their hours they're supposed to be open between 8:00 am to 10:30 pm, however we have holiday here in Cuenca, so that may be the reason.

We are open every day from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Please note that we moved to the corner of Hermano Miguel and Bolivar 2 years ago. I dont know on which closed door you knocked - it was probably not ours... :)
