JB Ah Meng, Geylang: I love holes in the walls and JB Ah Meng has upgraded with their moved spot. I have been going to this for years as it’s right around the corner from me. It’s straight forward, spartan and white light so bright,...you will see everything in your dish. Ambience is not their thing here. What they’re good at are these simple Malaysian dishes. They have become a local icon, having lured the who’s who in the culinary world - Adrian Ferria, Anthony Bourdain, politicians, celebrities and whoever. You know this as the entire walls covered in blown-up pictures of the stars. However, after an absence of two years, I feel that the taste standards have dipped. The prices have upped considerably. They still have non-stop streams of people who have travelled afar to eat here. A lot of curious foreigners weather tourists or business trippers. The popular dishes are the fried bee soon which used to be deep fried and is a curious flying disc of crunchy noodles. We had soggy ones that broke up. Prawn paste chicken still retains its good flavours. Saledegg prawn was disappointing. The sauce choked up into clumps and were hard versus tender. Lotus root long beans still have the wok kick. I was disappointed and we headed to Geylang Lorong 29 for the wok hey charcoal infused Hokkien Mee across for a greater kick. JB Ah Meng will continue to draw hordes of curious tasters but the good old days are over for me. #eatstylishtravelstylishMore

I saw long Q everytime i passedby. Finally i decided to dine there with my friend. The quality of dishes was suboptimal, for example, the so called famous Sam lou bee hoon was dry and salty, so much pork lard in fried kankong, the crab...meat broth was mainly needle mushroom and corn. It was not cheap with such poor quality dishes, about S$60 for 3 small dishes.More

I saw their review in timeout.com and mention of a Michelin write up got me out of my hotel and headed over for a late dinner after work. When I arrived there were a lot of open tables inside and outside. I decided to sit...outside as the weather was not too warm or humid. The decor was simple with the inside walls covered with photos of people and then food photos wrapped around the outside of the restaurant. Service was not that great but I was able to get my order placed. However could not get any hot tea refilled. At the end I went inside to pay as no staff came anywhere near my table. The menu was quite extensive but given being a solo diner I could not justify getting a whole white pepper crab. I will need to drag one of my coworkers next time. Instead I got their JB San Lou Mee Hon which was a compilation of fried noodles with pork, prawns, eggs and veggies. It was crispy, smoky and chewy all at the same time. The fried garlic chili clams was a full plate of clams in a fragrant sauce. Another good choice.More

Bit on the expensive side, not in terms of price but volume. Best 5/5 is their signature San Lor Meehoon at $7. It is a zichar place so don't expect ambience or great service. But great food! The Spicy Lala, Fish Head and Bitter Gourd,...Prawns in Salted Egg, all great tasting. Kudos to them.More

JB has to be my all time favourite. Even through Covid lockdown with takeaway this restaurant delivers the best seafood in Singapore.. only Hua Yu Wee comes close. Consistently fabulous and tasty and always super busy.

Deep fried fermented bean paste pork belly - crispy on the outside; firm yet tender on the inside.. This dish was SO DELICIOUS, my family went back for a second round the following weekend! Taste: 10/10 🌟 Price: 7/10 (Compared to other zichar establishments, food...at JB Ah Meng is slightly more expensive but IMO well worth the heftier price tag.. We paid $24 for the large portion, but prices start from $12 for this dish)More

Was introducing the family to this famous restaurant. Even with covid-19 the restaurant had loads of queues. As usual, their famous dishes did not disappoint- white pepper crabs, fried bee hoon, har jeong gai, fried pork belly. Definitely get your arteries clogged up with such...salivating food. However, took away the one star for customer oriented service. Staff are rushing around, expect you to stay out of the way, impatient and move off to other tables if you are not ready to order swiftly.More

Really compared the crab and food from this place to the other main ones on the road The main positives were: 1) Atmosphere was very authentic 2) Reaonably priced for the crab. 3) Good quality crab meat. We couldn't eat anymore 4) Extremely good friendly...service. I felt the other places were pushy and some were so dodgy i thought they would throw in a happy ending at the end.....I was there for crab with my gf 5) Great selection of other foodMore

I have tried both dine-in and takeout at this outlet. In order to avoid the long waiting, we booked our table at the 1st timing, orders were served pretty and food was really nice to everyone's likings. I recommend to eat while dishes are served...hot! Had the san lou beehoon. It's okay.Their clams are delicious but it's a bit spicy so are their white pepper crab. The white pepper crab is really delicious and price wise, reasonable. Their barley drink on the other hand is a bit bland. There is...always a long queue there. Alot of reservations but i think it is fine to walk in.More
