There's a reason this place is the #1 restaurant on Trip Advisor for Lhasa -- because it is perfect in every way! We went there 4 times in our 2.5 days in Lhasa. I'm not one to always go back to the same place, but during our trek we dreamed of eating a yak burger. When we returned, the restaurant stayed open late for us so that we could celebrate a successful EBC trek with yak burgers and Lhasa beer! A huge "thank you" to the ladies who stayed until 11:30 on a Saturday night cooking us yak burgers. We will never forget you and hope to come back and eat your

We came back twice as we love the feel and the view from the roof. Food was lovely and staff very helpful and friendly.
Lhasa beer in a bottle was light and not too heavy, help with altitude sickness to not have beer but was not persuaded by that approach.
Food included curry sets that we're chicken, Yak etc and here good value.
I would recommend this place highly.

The restaurant moved to a large new place nearJokhang temple. It still has a family feel to it. You can see their kitchen and it looks like at home. The menu is large with many options, Tibetan, Western, Nepalese. We loved all our meals there.

It Is a very cozy place, we had 3 or 4 times lunch or dinner here, and every time we were happy with food and service. Many local dishes, but also good western options: spaghetti with homemade fresh tomato sauce were great! But in general, every food was fresh cooked and expertly prepared. In addition, the location has a very cozy and traditional atmosphere in the inside, and on the top a wide terrace with outstanding view on the Jokhang Temple and surroundings. The host Is very nice and speaks good english. Wish to come back one day!

Down an alleyway, through a door and up a wooden staircase you will arrive at ‘Tibetan Family Kitchen.’ Greeted with a warm smile you are taken to sit in an authentic Tibetan setting. The menu has a range of Tibetan, Nepalese and western style dishes. You can show your appreciation by leaving a message on the wall. We came here twice and both times we enjoyed the food and the warm hospitality. Well worth a visit more than once. 😊

This is a great family-friendly restaurant. Our party loved it so much that we went three times over the course of our stay in Tibet! It's very small and cosy. On two of the nights, we filled the entire restaurant, which meant our kids could play card games in the corner while the adults enjoyed their meals. There's something for everyone. Picky eaters? There's your typical shaghetti and french fries. Enjoy a curry? There's a bunch of curry sets that include a mixed tray of Indian delights. Want local Tibetan food? The stir-fried yak and sweet peppers was a hit, as was the yak-meat fried jiaozi. We loved this restaurant so much that the second time we came to Lhasa, we chose a hotel across the road from it. Talk about convenience and yummy food!

To finish off a fabulous day in Lhasa, we made our way to The Tibetan Family Kitchen. This restaurant was recommended by a friend who came to visit a few years ago. Located in a super convenient location, one of the entry points to Barkhor Street Market. We were a group of 15.
To finish off a second fabulous day, we went back, this time we were 24 people!
Food came super fast. DON'T over order! We tried the 1 dish per person rule...there were leftovers. We were stuffed!

Tibetan Family Kitchen, just by Jokana Temple, is a lovely restaurant decorated in traditional style. It also has an outdoor roof terrace.
It is great for groups of friends and very family friendly. The people who run it are so friendly and speak excellent English.
The menu is varied. We had the Yak burger, momos, egg & tomato noodle soup, fried aubergine (eggplant), soup noodles and vegetable curry. All were delicious. Our favourite restaurant in Lhasa.

Our tour guide recommended this restaurant, and we did want to try authentic Tibetan food. The inside of the establishment is decorated in traditional Tibetan style, and it has also a rooftop seating area with a view of the nearby Jokhang Temple. The owner used to be an English-speaking tour guide, and there seemed to be at least one other employee who spoke some English. The menu had some items that were apparently adapted for American and European customers (e.g., French fries), and there were also many items that did not seem different from those offered at Han Chinese restaurants. So, I surmise that the dishes do mix flavors from different cuisines, which is in my view a good thing. We ordered two dishes from the “Specialty” section of the menu (Yak Momo and Radish Yak Stew), and both were tasty, although I would have preferred more spices in each of the dishes (which might make them less Tibetan). All in all, we satisfied our desire to try Tibetan food.

We took a Tibetan cooking class with the owner of this family restaurant. It was a fun and educational experience, and the food we made was an absolutely amazing dinner. I can't wait to try the recipes at home! Would definitely recommend!

I chance upon this family kitchen on my first day at Lhasa Old Town while venturing around the area. I loved the serenity, family environment (not so touristic) and the home cooked food. Definitely must try for authentic Tibetan food. Additionally, level 3 (rooftop) offers a good view of Lhasa old town and a glimpse of Jokhang Temple and Potala Palace. I had 3 dinners here in my 11-day Tibet tour. Highly recommended. Two thumbs up. 👍🏻👍🏻

TFK was one of the first places we ate at in Lhasa (recommended to us by a friend) and it was so great that we kept going back! There is so much to choose from on the menu. I am vegetarian and there were plenty of options. My friends really enjoyed the yak burger in particular! I loved the masala tea and the lemon and ginger tea. There is a lovely little roof terrace to sit on with view over the Jokhang Temple and Lhasa city towards the mountains. Service was excellent and they even do cooking classes! Would recommend anyone to visit if travelling through Lhasa.
