I had dinner there arranged by my travel agency. It was one of the best places to try local food. Not only classic meals but dishes that I didn't try anywhere else. I loved decoration with traditional Tibetan elements. Food was also served on cute ceramic dishes.

This is an excellent place to sit back and relax with a cup of butter or sweet tea. It is right across from the Jokhang temple and above Barkhor street. I was fascinated just watching different people do the pilgrimages and prostration around the temple. It was amazing to me and surreal to still such dedication and faith and the people in traditional wear. The food here is ok, and like most of Mainland China, it is served with an abundance of oil.

My wife and I have been there twice and each time it’s been great. Often times they’ll have a buffet lunch if a group is coming. Cauliflower, broccoli, potatoes, onions, tomatoes, salad and more. Includes a beer, soft drink or juice. All for 60 rmb!!
(About $8)
They don’t have the buffet all the time, but the menu items are equally reasonable.
The Owners are usually on hand and speak English.
They even have pizza.
It’s located on a busy alley right off Beijing East Road. Any taxi or DD driver will know it. You can call for the directions as well. #7 Jiri Erxiang.
They even have a hotel in the same building (Shambala Palace)

During our stay in Lhasa we stayed at house of Shambala and ate at their restaurant every day. Great, authentic food, very friendly staff and very good vegan options.

I would recommend if only for the decoration and atmosphere. But food was good and people serving friendly.
Not to mention we got milk tea from one of the other guests :)

This is clearly a restaurant made for tourists. The restaurant decor is colorful and tasteful . They have great teas including a Fiji berry ginger herbs that felt great for the altitude. Food included Indian type food and some Tibetan like the wontons and yak stew. This place Is hard to find the first time, call for directions beforehand this is inside an alley in the market. You have to walk there, no cars are allowed .

Decided to visit based on other reviews. Shared the magic mushrooms, which were nice, but the lamb tikka was fairly bland and the cuts of meat were dry and chewy. Had a ginger and lemon tea as well, which cost almost twice a bottle of beer but came in a tiny cup that was not even hot. Service wasn't great either. One of our other group had the yak burger and said it was great.

We ate here twice, once on our own and once with our tour group when we had the buffet. Both were absolutely fantastic - the best meals we had in Lhasa and there are some good restaurants. Really helpful and friendly staff too. A great place, I wish it was easy to come back!

My family came to Lhasa for the first time and set up with a tour company to go visit the sites. Our arrival day we were on our own for lunch and dinner. We picked the best place!!! I highly recommend the House of Shambhala. It has everything from Indian, Tibetan, Chinese and Western food. I highly recommend the Tibetan yak dumplings and the magic mushroom dish. The tea was something I will always remember. The ambiance is great and the hotel staff speaks very good English.

Went here based on other reviews and was very disappointed with the food at lunch. The service was great but some of the food was inedible. We had chicken tikka which came out pink and looked like it had been boiled instead of grilled and it was chewy. The roti was flour based and crunchy. The Chana aloo was made with green peas instead of chic peas. The only item we had which was good was the aloo kauli. I really wanted to like this place but it just was not up to par.

My family stayed here for 5 nights after journeying for 2 days and 4 trains to get to Lhasa from Hong Kong. We were promptly checked-in, served masala chai and shown to our spacious two bedroom suite.
Beautiful and authentic artwork adorn the walls and the furnishings were elegant and true to Tibetian style.
The bathroom was clean and well appointed. A bathroom heat lamp for colder evenings.
Fresh towels and housekeeping everyday.
Plenty of outlets to charge devices.
Best of all is the location - in the heart of old Lhasa and walking distance to the Barkhor circuit, the Muslim quarters and a few minutes by car to the Potala Palace.
The breakfast was perfect too - eggs served your way, coffee, toast, fruits and muesli. Basic and nutritious and the best start to our day. We had dinner twice at the hotel and I would say the restaurant is definitely one of the best in the city.
On a side note, they have oxygen bottles for 40RMB if you ever feel you need one.
Please don’t hesitate to book!!

We were staying here, but also opted to eat here three times as the food was so delicious. It has an extensive menu (in English) covering local, Indian and Chinese, with a couple of western options. Beer is 15 Yuan and they have foreign wine, but this is not kept in a very good way, so I wouldn't recommend it, and it's expensive. All the staff speak good English and service is very friendly and efficient. The restaurant is decorated in a local style, so it has a really good feel to the place. It's probably a ten minute walk from the Jokhang Temple is your not staying in the hotel and is definitely worth a visit if your in Lhasa.
