On a Sunday a group of us went to this traditional Tibetan restaurant for lunch. It was quite busy when we arrived which is always a good sign but I did think it was a bit strange that both the manager and the waitress were wearing heavy coats, still the temperature was fine for us. The seven of us chose... More

The original location on the Barkhor was recently demolished- it is now about a 10 minute walk SE of the Barkhor, on the busy thoroughfare Jiangsu Road. It doesn't have the atmosphere of the Barhkor, but still a convenient location, across the street from the Muslim Quarter, 150m south of the Grand Mosque. Judging from the past reviews, my guess... The New Mandala was my go to spot for food during my time in Lhasa, with at least five visits for lunch or dinner. Service was adequate but not always attentive, with the main staff able to take orders in English and Chinese. Food was tasty and cheap. The curry set meal (meat or vege) is a great deal at... More

Went for early dinner, and the sunset light over Barkor sq was a treasure. Yes they have an English menu, and the selections are plenty. Tried a Nepali dish and it was tasty. Yes the food is a notch better in some other places, yet the people watching is phenominal. The locals seem to be a pretty cheerful bunch, which... More

A great location with fantastic views. We ate here twice on our recent trip. The menu has great variety, we loved the Yak Dumplings. The beer was always very cold. The service was good and the staff were obliging. There is an English menu with pictures to help with ordering. We enjoyed every dish that was served, and the portions... More

Great restaurant in Lhasa with a spectacular view of Barkhor Square. Sit on the rooftop at sunset and enjoy a Lhasa beer with a variety of Tibetan, Nepalese, India and Chinese food options. This restaurant is designed for tourists as everything is in English and you'll find mostly tourists here.

Convenient location but I wasn't impressed as it doesn't offer any dishes that you can't get anywhere else at a better price. English menu and English speaking staff is helpful.

Whilst the food was absolutely fine, go to this restaurant for the stunning view of Barkhor square. We spent a great hour or so eating, drinking and people watching. Food was good, extremely cheap and the staff very friendly. Highly recommend!
