It was a bit hard for me to locate this restaurant as it was located inside a lodging hotel and there was no display board outside written in English (it was definitely written in Chinese or Tibetan, but I ouldn't decipher). But once I entered, I liked the delicacies here.

This is undoubtedly the best restaurant in Lhasa, in every way: wonderful food, very nice and attentive staff, quiet and pleasant place to have a meal. The restaurant is inside the Kyichu Hotel and some tables are placed in the inside garden, where you can have your meal in the sun or the shade. The food is delicious and staff treats you very well. Worth a try!

Good Indian food, friendly English speaking staff. While the place was empty the food was a great surprise! Chicken masala and tandoori can be recommended. Vegitarian curry was a delight.

While food here is good the local dishes are best. Ask for their soups which are all good. The western dishes are okay but the French Fries will not satisfy your craving for Chips like home.

They Kyichu Restaurant is part of the Kyichu Hotel. If you're not staying at the hotel, go in to enjoy the great restaurant they have. The menu offers both Tibetan and Chinese options but choose the Tibetan menu. It's very good. They have both indoor and courtyard dining. Dining outside in the courtyard is wonderful when the weather is pleasant. The waiting staff is very polite, efficient and welcoming. They also have free WIFI if you need it but the connection is not always great and China blocks Google and FaceBook at this time. Since I stayed at this hotel for several nights, I got to explore the area a bit in terms of dining and discovered a nice spot very near the hotel that foreigners do not visit. We needed to eat late one night - 9:30pm - and found two Chinese restaurants tucked away in an alley about a 100 feet from the hotel moving in the direction of the Potala Palace. You will pass a bunch of clothing shops and then come to a alley, look left and go in. Two restaurants will be on the right. One with a huge sign above it with the Shangri-La Restaurant written on it. I have no idea what the names of these restaurants really are. It's all written in Chinese characters. Anyway, go to the second restaurant, not the one with the sign above it. They both have the same system of serving food. I just found the people in the second restaurant much more welcoming and to our delight, there was a Chinese women dining there who spoke English that night. So, she guided us through the process. It's very simple: Walk in, pick up a plastic tray/basket, go the refrigerators on your right, choose the items you want (they are all skewered on sticks), then give the tray to the woman/man. You will need to say if you want rice or noodles to go with your food. They make a great soup out of it. So, if you don't speak Chinese get someone to write out the characters for RICE and NOODLES and then show them what you want. In a few minutes out will come a wonderful bowl of food all of your choosing. Hope this is helpful if you need eat late one night.

This place was welcoming. From the kittens playing in the garden sunlight to the fountain surrounded by flowers, the Courtyard was a lovely addition to the good food.

We ate here as a group, but got to order separately. Nice location, right downtown, but the restaurant faces a peaceful courtyard (we ate inside in the cool weather) away from the hustle and bustle outside. Varied menu that included Nepali and Indian cuisine as well as Tibetan and Chinese. The Chicken Tikka was delicious as was the dal bread. A nice surprise was an espresso bar! A very enjoyable experience -- I wish that we had had a little more time to linger there.

My friends and I recently had dinner at the Kyichu Hotel, where we were staying for 4 nights. The restaurant is located in the courtyard of the hotel and is quite beautifully decorated. The restaurant staff spoke English well and they had a nice menu offering Indian/Nepali, Tibetan, Chinese and Western dishes. The dishes were slightly more money than elsewhere in Lhasa, however the food was quite amazing. Since the restaurant was located right in the hotel, we did not mind paying slightly more for the convenience. I would not hesitate to eat here again.

I originally posted this review under the Kyichu Hotel -- I did not see that the restaurant had a separate listing. All apologies for double-dipping: This little courtyard restaurant was quite charming, and surprisingly quiet after the crowded, busy street outside (the hotel is located in a prime location, not far from Barkhor Street and Jokhang Temple). It took a while to get seated and the service was a little slow, but friendly and polite once they got around to us. The staff all seemed to speak at least a little English. The food was very good (I tried the yak beriyani and my husband had yak pizza) -- both were quite tasty and portions were too big to finish. The menu had lots of delicious-looking options available (Western, Tibetan, Chinese and Indian) and the prices were quite reasonable. I would definitely recommend, so long as you're not in too big of a hurry.

Restaurant looking towards a nice inner garden (lunch in the garden). Especially recommandable are the Yak steak and Yak burger: much more tender meat then beef.
