We went here after going to Nan Lian garden and we're surprised by the quality and value of the food. After being disappointed so many times in Hk city as it goes with restaurant hopping this place was a pleasant surprise I just wish it was closer to were we are staying because I would eat here every day. It... More

It started from 14:30 to 16:00 from Monday to Friday, it had special offer for afternoon tea set. I went there in July for afternoon because of that. We had two persons, so we ordered two tea set, one was spicy minted port noodles in soup and the other one was noodles in soup with deep fried port chop. The... More

I wanted peking duck so the hotel booked me a table at Modern China on times square. It is more like a factory, big , loads of people, within an hour most tables were empty again, no english (or very little) spoken. So if you want a nice restaurant with good friendly service skip modern china. The peking duck however... More

I've been here numerous times with my husband and the food is generally good. I went today for lunch and was less than impressed. We ordered 8 dishes, mix of dumplings, sizzling beef and tofu/veg and had to send most of it back. Suspect a change in chef or something because each dish tasted completely different to how it used... More

It used to be quite difficult to get into this restaurant but, now the wait seems much shorter. I believe this is due to their food quality falling. I thought to Sichuan noodles were not as good as before. Hardly any flavour. We order roasted duck which was dry and way over cooked. Barely edible. The Xiao long Bao also... More

Below average food, below average quality, below average service. For the food we have eaten and the price they charge, it is way below average. Skip at all cost.

Have been to Modern China on various occasions. This last experience was very disappointing. Ordered xiao long bao (just ok), fried noodles with spicy pork (best dish of the night), Dan dan mien (disappointing), fried bun with sweetened condensed milk (served hot and was pleasant), 1/2 duck (worst duck I've had in Hong Kong-- no taste, dry, tough- wish we... Consistently good food and service throughout their chain restaurants. Telford has the advantage of being bookable on weeknights while weekends are not too much of a wait. Even after 12pm on Sunday lunchtimes, you won't have trouble getting a table. On this occasio I tried the roasted mutton belly. It was strong, crisp and not at all oily. Well made... More

Modern China is one of the many Shanghainese restaurants in Hong Kong. This restaurant is conveniently located on the 13th floor of the Food Forum in Times Square. The Xiao Long Bao (or soup dumpling) is one of the best I've had in Hong Kong. Why? The skin/wrapper is super thin and the meat inside is succulent and full of... More

If you go slightly off hours there is no wait. I have been a couple of times and always enjoy my meal. I don't like the fact that the cost of tea is automatically included in the bill, but their oolong tea is very good. The fact that any time I have gone to the restaurant it is packed with... More

Staying in Wan Chai / Causeway Bay

Neighborhood Profile
Wan Chai / Causeway Bay
Wan Chai and Causeway Bay are the retail centers of Hong Kong Island. Filled with shops, malls and restaurants, both areas are bustling with people – tourists and locals alike. Causeway Bay has one of the highest rents on the planet, and is a bit more polished and modern than its Wan Chai counterpart. Beneath the surface there is more than meets the eye – find boutique stores in the above ground floors of buildings and wander into side streets to find interesting restaurants and shops tucked away from the main roads. Wan Chai especially has experienced a modern revival in recent times, with an influx of trendy restaurants and bars around the Star Street area. In addition, both areas contain many of Hong Kong’s iconic tourist attractions worthy of your visit.
