Ok so let’s be honest. The food is not bad but because there is a dearth of good Indian vegetarian restaurants especially ones that do dosas Woodlands stands out. The food can be good one day & mediocre another day. Today the paper masala dosa...was outstanding. In the past the sambhar had a burnt bitter taste but today it was good. But who in God’s name puts chutney & filling in the puris for pani puri & then serves it to you at your table? Never in my 50 odd years of eating pani puri have I encountered such utter disregard for a dish. The puris were soft & soggy by the time they arrived & when we added the water they just disintegrated!!! Who in God’s name came up with that? The staff were nice but the manager there is such a sour puss. I’ve never seen him smile. Hope he’s not the poster boy of how vegetarian food is suppose to make you feel. Cheer up for God’s sake man. Make it a happy place.More

Woodlands Restaurant in Hong Kong was established in the 1980s by 2-3 South Indian gentlemen The quality of the food was authentic South Indian. The ownership of the Restaurant has changed hands. First, we ordered Dahi Vada (Savoury lentil donut in yoghurt). This dish had...plenty of sugar in the yoghurt which perhaps makes it easier to sell. Second, Idli/Vada Sambar - (Idli, steamed rice cake, and Vada is Savoury lentil donut). Both these items turned out to be stale and lacked the quality of authentic South Indian food. This dish is served with Sambar, a soupy lentil dish with some vegetables like drumstick/pumpkin, etc., with coconut chutney and tomato chutney. The Sambar served was like tomato paste with hardly any taste of lentils, and again with sugar. Similarly, we could not taste any coconut in the Coconut Chutney. Third, Masala Paper Dosa - Customers who have been to this restaurant will know what it is. This was crispy and better quality, but again, the Sambar and the Chutneys served with it were of poor quality. One staff who was serving us (thanks to him) noticed our dislike of the Sambar and the chutneys, he then served us an alternative to Sambar, called Rasam, Which was better. Those non-Indians who have not had the opportunity of tasting authentic South Indian food may find these dishes tasty. Perhaps this is commercial success. But for the connoisseur, there may be other places to try .......More

We went for lunch and had some panipuri and paneer dosa. The food was overall quite good and the restaurant had a family friendly atmosphere.

I really enjoyed the experience of eating masala dosa there after some time. All what we ordered was delicious except our vegetarian noodles. I was very impressed with Karishma's attentive service to our table. She was very helpful for exchanging our order of our noodles....She also, suggested a delicious dessert of "kulfi" which we enjoyed very much. I give 5 stars to Karishma's excellent service to our table. She also made us feel very comfortable and at home. Well done Karishma!More

Visited this place first time in 2010. Lot has changed since then, with things at steady decline. Things changed a bit with a management change - but now it seems to have gotten an attitude of money churning machine with no customer service concept. Have...told myself several time that I will never go back, but ended up visiting again. The hallmark was one of the staff putting my bag up on the chair on which the kid was sitting and got off for a moment and then came “Are you done?”, followed by the bill on the table and “can you pay now” to which my wife replied with “let me finish first”. If you need to turn tables fast enough so that you are practically pushing your customers out, might not seem like that now, but the time of decline shall come soon!More

There are a fair number of veg and non veg Indian restaurants around TST and TST East. We really like Woodlands at the Wing On Plaza on Mody Road. Opening around 11.30-3pm (lunch) and 6.30-11.30pm (dinner), they have a fair sized indoor seating area and...do take-away and delivery in the area as well. A lot of good vegetarian and jain friendly dishes at Woodlands. We really like their thali sets. You can choose from southern, northern or Woodlands Special thali served with rice and your choice of poori or chapathi. Sets are generous portion size, two thali for three people is enough. In short, all bowls taste natural and good. For two people we also like to add an order of samosa or vava pao. Starters are nicely prepared and flavourful as well. Service is polite, timely and they are helpful if you have questions about the dishes. Note, Woodlands is a vegetarian only place with a focus on Southern Indian dishes, perhaps best known for their their dosa. They have a sister restaurant called Hello India on Hankow Road in TST that offers veg and non-veg and focuses more on Northern Indian. That is a pretty good traditional curry house as well.More

The food: Ordered masala dosa, idli and rava masala dosa. They come with sambar (lentil curry), a red chutney and the white coconut chutney. The taste: The wrap/crepe part of the dosas was OK. The masala was a bit below average. The sambar was not...good. Both chutneys were terrible. The service: Fast enough to beat fast-food places. The manager was condescending but staff was polite, efficient. The hygiene: Sofas, chairs and plates, glasses were clean. The floor was disgustingly sticky.More

Stopped by The Woodlands recently for another round of tasty vegan-friendly Indian and was very happy with my lunch. This is one of the longest standing Indian restaurants in the city and a very good option for those looking for vegetarian, vegan, Jain dishes. They...are separate lunch and dinner opening times, you can reserve a table, walk-in, do take-away or delivery if preferred. On this occasion, I had samosa which are so good at Woodlands. The filling is thick, creamy with a nice level of spice. I also had the Paneer Makhani, a nice curry that was slightly sweet and tomato based savoury. The cottage cheese with slightly thick, just chewy enough, took on the makhani flavours very well. I also tried their Lemon Rice which was expectedly citrusy in flavour. This was an interesting alternative to more conventional rice and biryani orders. Finished my lunch with a nice cup of Madras style filter coffee which tasted just fine. Overall, this was a hearty and expectedly good lunch. Look forward to my next meal at The Woodlands.More
