Opera Bombana is the single best fine dining "Western" restaurant in Beijing, which has delivered the biggest number of mind- and taste bud-blowing experiences I've had over more than 5 years of dining out in Beijing, while being quite a demanding customer in terms of...quality I expect, first and foremost in terms of precise and world-class execution of both simple (yet so hard to get right) and complicated concepts. I think Opera strikes the right balance between traditional and innovative, and accounts for some of the best dishes I've ever had -- superlative beef short rib and parmesan risotto; outstanding pasta such as fagotelli and gnudi; expertly sourced ingredients, including the best steak in Beijing while not being a steak house. Opera also doesn't just hide behind serving lots of fancy ingredients to clients on corporate expense accounts (which is easy to do for top-of-the range Italians, in Asian markets especially), and "PR spend"-based / KOL-endorsed ratings, letting the food speak for itself. Chef Eugenio Iraci's cerebral persona is a rarity in F&B circles, and the floor team makes you feel at home and genuinely appreciated as a guest (Stefano, Valentina, Jonathan and the others) -- again, where other upmarket establishments can err too much on the side of colder/impersonal formality (or frankly inept service). The location in a shopping mall does not inspire excitement at first glance, but is amply compensated for by the really unique and sensual surroundings once you are inside (high ceilings, decor inspired by pop art and film iconography). However if like me you are on the look-out for the highest quality cuisine out there, all other factors become irrelevant by comparison -- so this has got to be your first choice. And you couldn't pay me enough to write such a glowing review (which unlike some other establishments in Beijing, Opera have never asked me to!), I feel compelled to do so out of my own volition -- if we as customers want to have better quality of food available to us in BJ, we've got to give the right places all the support and recognition they deserve!More

I guess I was expecting something different as 90% of my friends are Italian from the Gambino’s to Palermo’s. I was expecting more traditional Italian dishes and much larger portions than the size of a quarter. If you go here hungry you will definitely leave...hungry. After 4500rmb I left hungry and with a lot less money in my WeChat. On the way home, I stopped at Annie’s in the CBD and got my fix for a traditional Italian meal. Wait staff was awesome and very attentive. Atmosphere was tastefully decorated and a great place for a romantic dinner. I will not be back as this isn’t my style of food. I like the family style Italian meals.More

Have been there 4-5 times and it is always a hit. Chef Eugenio and his brigade work magic in this kitchen. Pasta and lobster were delicious, the pasta were cooked to perfection and the lobster melted in your mouth. To start with an array of...fresh home breads and couple amuse bouche and finishing with some chocolates and petit fours. Stefano, the manager and Maître D’ recommended an amazing wine, his team is very detailed and anticipate your needs. You never have to ask for anything. A must go!More

It is not the first time I visit Opera Bombana and I like to do it with high-profile business partners and associates as it is a great opportunity to offer a pleasant experience for my guests. This time I went for lunch with a business...partner visiting from abroad and we had, as expected, a high level experience. I love seafood myself so I ordered some seafood and fish such as the tuna tartare (very fresh, impressive presentation!) and the mussels spaghetti (from France, delicious and creamy), however my guest ordered some meat too and I had the chance to have a try to his foie gras which was amazing. I have to say that I got struck by the culatello and gorgonzola truffle salad, and I have been told that this restaurant follows a strict policy for sourcing their truffle as chef Bombana is also known as the king of truffles. Attentive wine pairing was provided by mr. Monte, who picked the right glass of wine for the two of us (eating different kind of food as I said), as well as careful wine service from the elegant ms. Battello, both genuinely Italian and experienced hospitality people. I am considering to go back for a romantic dinner with my other half Sasha for a special occasion...I am sure it would be a memorable experience.More

Had 3 course set lunch with a friend. Cost 299 per pax, price only available on wkdays. Nice ambience, presentation of food typical of Italian restaurant. But chicken main course was extremely salty and over cooked. I provided feedback to the manager who asked me...what I want and took away the half eaten chicken.. I told him that I wanted nothing. Felt it was a bit odd to ask customer what they want when they give feedback. Other upmarket restaurants that I have been, giving a more genuine service recovery would be to offer a small goodwill gesture eg. desert, fruit etc even when customer does not need anything. It is the gesture that matters not the value of the item and also to appreciate feedback. He did not even thank me for my feedback!More

We should have stuck with local cuisine. This restaurant had a decent selection of Italian fare, but it was very expensive for pasta. I believe that our bill was about RMB US$80 per person.....and we split an appetizer (one scallop...hahaha for RMB 238) and each...had a pasta and a glass of wine. But it was convenient....in the same building as our hotel.More

Opera Bombana is undeniably one of the best restaurants in Beijing. This is one of my happy places in the Jing! I came here several times with family and friends in the past, but this time I was by myself. I was impressed with the...consistency of the quality of their service and of course the heartwarming meal that satisfied my picky palate. They paid attention to every single detail that would ensure I'm comfortable even if I dined in alone. I always love the pieces of bread they served at the beginning of each meal. I ordered some ravioli with montasio cheese fondue for my starter, roasted spring chicken for the main course, and some gelato to finish (which all didn't disappoint!). The complimentary wine went so well with my roasted chicken, and they also served my favorite petit fours to go with my espresso at the end. Dining at this place is always a pleasant experience that always makes you come back for more. Ahh, I forgot to mention that the menu here goes by season depending on the freshest produce. They have an Instagram account if you are interested in checking out what they serve before going.More

Went to Opera Bombana with my husband for a lunch treat (because of the many positive recommendations). I am usually sceptical with Western restaurants around Beijing as they tend to work towards the 'Asian' taste buds but was pleasantly surprised. My husband got a 3...course meal with Prosecco which was a great deal (488cny) and I ordered a main course only (only Veggie option I could find). Turned out, his 3-course meal included 3 starters and a huge dessert... We shared the starters (2 veggie options) and the dessert and were absolutely stuffed! What a great deal! Ambience was nice and the staff very attentive- so far the best in Beijing! Would return anytime!More
