I dined here on 2 April 2021. After looking for it for a good while, I found the original location with a sign posted on the door that it moved to 88 Baochao Hutong. Upon finding it, I was relieved that the waitress spoke serviceable...English. I ordered Mr. Shi's Garden salad (cabbage, julienned tofu, fried peanuts, and sweet(ish) dressing) and a dozen fried potstickers. The salad was phenomenal! It is something I'd definitely order again. The potstickers were great when warm, but not as good when they cooled down after 15 minutes. One thing to keep in mind for visitors without WeChat pay is paying with cash might be a hassle. It took a while a to find change for a 100 RMB note. At any rate, I would definitely put this on the list of places to go if I were showing someone around Beijing.More

This place lived up to the hype! They had really tasty dumplings, sweet and sour pork and hot and sour soup. The savoury dumplings have to be ordered in sets of 12 but you can order mixed sets with two flavours and six dumplings of...each! We would recommend the cheese, beef and shrimp dumplings! Definitely would go back and would recommend to a friend visiting for the first time!More

It’s a good place to take visitors who want to try Chinese food. They have dumplings of course and also a variety of chinese dishes. A lot of the dishes also have some western elements. In the hutongs. Food is reasonably priced too.

Chinese dumpling restaurant but the customers were mostly westerners and young locals. There’s lots of dumplings to choose from and we were spoilt for choices but I particularly liked the pan fried curry dumplings. I think we can eat all the different types of dumplings...here. I wouldn’t mind coming back again to try all the dumplings they have.More

Nice place in a nice location. There is a waitress very unpolite. Huge choice of dumplings but very very expensive. We ordered two types (one boiled and one fried with cheese) and these were disgusting. We finish with the sweet one (chocolate and apple) and...it was very good.More

Listen to the few negative reviews, I didn’t and I regret it! Beijing has amazing dumplings that are not here... Negatives: -Very average -Over priced (it’s 饺子!) -Tiny and with 2 waitresses in a cramped atmosphere (trying to appeal to foreigners) it was very slow...service. Positive: -It’s in the Hutongs (but there’s more Hutongs with better dumplings!) Save your pennies/stomach/time and keep looking on TripAdvisor for a good dumpling place!More

Very average dumplings. As this is not easy to find we were expecting something out of this world. Service was bad. Waitress rude and unhelpful. Dumplings were average Ambience in the garden was nice. Perhaps a better place to eat in summer.

They have different price for foreigners. Try not to go there. That's worst restaurant in Beijing I have visited so far.

Ordered take away from Mr Shi's. I was pleasantly surprised. We ordered the noodles, sweet and sour pork, chicken and basil dumplings and beef dumplings (both fried). The sweet and sour pork and the noodles both reminded of a Chinese take away from the UK...(really hard to find in Beijing). I'm fussy with dumplings and don't always enjoy them. These dumplings were so tasty. They had the right amount of soft vs crisp and a great flavour to be enhanced by the soy and hot sauces. This place is a great hangover cure!! Definitely be back but to sit in house!!More

Mr. Shi’s was everything we expected and more. Very low key atmosphere, no frills — a great contrast to the hustle and bustle of the rest of the city’s restaurants. Food was great and came out fast! Dumplings were delicious. We also had the sweet...and sour pork which was served with white rice and it was great. I should note, as of November 2019, they are at a new location. It’s just down the street and around the corner...there’s a sign out front to direct you to the new spot.More
