The best Om Ali

I went for takeaway lunch here a couple of times and the owner was really helpfil giving info on the menu. We also chatted a while before I left and he was a very genuine and nice person. So the food... Wow! The kofta was extremely good and savory! Also they make the best Om Ali bread pudding. It was all very fairly priced too. A must try if you're in Luxor.

Authentic and relaxed food with a 'living room' atmosphere

What makes this restaurant different from the 'touristy' places is that you can eat fresh dishes here for a fair price. The fried potatoes were excellent. The owner is friendly and helpful. After our dinner, we wanted to avoid the crowds on the street and he quickly helped us find a taxi back to the hotel via a local app. We will definitely come back next time! If you are looking for a luxurious restaurant with a slick interior, this is not the place. Just good (or quick) food without hassle and authentic service, then be sure to visit Gerda's Garden

Excellent German Food at Gerda's

We took a chance to leave the Hilton for dinner tonight and took a cab to Gerda's Garden. We though the food was like home cooking and a break from the menu at the hotels we stayed at over the last week. The meatloaf and german fried potatoes were more than I could finish. Wife had the Goulash. Nice night out. Taxi R/T 160 LE plus 40 LE for a tip.

Decent meal and service, nothing wonderful

It’s marked wrongly on the map. It’s on Ali Ibn Abi Taleb Street, as shown on Google Maps. Not sure where Gerda and the garden are. I was welcomed and served in an empty smallish restaurant by a guy who seemed to have a German accent, but according to other reviews, is Egyptian. There’s a small selection of German dishes on the otherwise familiar standard Egyptian-International Luxor menu, the service was friendly and prompt and prices are reasonable. The food was as good as I had in other International places but nothing special and in a town of many eating places, I wasn’t tempted to go back. No alcohol but they do take credit card payments.

A HOME FROM HOME.

I must admit first that I lived two minutes walk from this restaurant for 10 years. Also that the owners were and still are personal friends. However I am sure that the guests coming through during those years wouldn't disagree with me when I praise this family run establishment. It truly is like a home from home for many of the guests that return time after time for the warm friendly welcome of the Egyptian owner and his German wife. Add to this the excellent international food produced in the quite small kitchen. A real gem of a place situated opposite the entrance to the Hilton Hotel at Karnak.

Friendly Service and Good Food

Gerda's Garden is perfect if you want to try good Egyptian food or take a break with some European food. Either way you'll enjoy the friendly service. The food is very inexpensive but very good. It is a little out of the way but was worth the trek and the music played during our visit was awesome!

The German style potatoes were spot on. Juice was super fresh and the service was very kind. The meat dish we got was solid but not remarkably unique flavor-wise and the rice was well made.

Good food great value

We had a delicious meal served in a family friendly atmosphere, which was excellent value. A point to note, the written address on TripAdvisor is correct but the map location has not been updated since its move to the new location in town, so use the address to locate the restaurant. Well worth a visit for good Egyptian food.

frendly and fresh tasting food

Was recommended by our friendly taxi driver and did not disappoint. Owner recommend what to try and we left him to it, soup, grilled chicken, beef in tomatoes & rice. All very tasty.

Great restaurant

Definitely recommend coming here for lunch or dinner to enjoy some fantastic food (western and Egyptian) at non touristy prices. The owners were brilliant at ensuring dishes for my daughter were free of nuts and sesame due to her allergies. My family and I went a couple of times as the food was very tasty.

Amazing food and service, probably my best meal in Egypt so far. Be aware that the restaurant changed location recently. It’s not near Karnak anymore but at Ali Ibn Abi Taleb, Gazirat Al Awameyah, Luxor, Luxor Governorate
