Excellent food, very tasty and good portions. The baba ganoush is excellent. Try the veal with natural tomato sauce. Delicious. Great place and good service.

Went back to back nights to Sofra, really enjoyed the mezzes (especially the stuffed peppers), and the mains were great too. The only complaint would be that it would be great if they served Stella!

We visited in April during Ramadan. I have to say the restaurant was very busy and we were looking forward to this meal as the reviews on TA were raving about this place. My boyfriend ordered a vegetable soup and he was brought a soup...with chicken. As we are both vegetarians, he told that he has ordered a vegetable soup as he doesn't eat meat. The waiter told us that chicken is not meat, but anyway my boyfriend explained kindly that he does eat chicken nor meat and he just ordered a vegetable soup. The waiter went away and came back five minutes later with the same soup minus the chicken.... nevermind we said, we'll order the mains. I ordered tagine which was average at best, my boyfriend ordere some dish (we can't remember the name) with eggs and tomatoes stew. He said it was ok, not bad.. at the time! In the meantime I was observing scenes worthy of Basil Fawlty: a customer asking for the menu with the waiter play tug of war with it.. the customer trying to snatch the menu back and the waiter hastily taking again the menu away .. there were plenty of menus, so i have no idea why. The best or worst should i say was when, as i could see part of the kitchen, one of the waiters, just about to come out of the kitchen, with a basket of bread, dropped one piece of bread. I really really hoped he would do the right thing, but no, he quickly picked it up, cleaned it with his apron and put it back on top of the pile... Anyway... we ate, we paid and we went to the hotel, only for my boyfriend to develop food poisoning that lasted 5 days including two trips to the doctor! I don't know.. the reviews are really good, maybe we were just unlucky.. however the bread thing is not luck... I cannot recommend this place..More

Delicious restaurant! I had the chicken in the red sauce and my husband had the lamb. It was really great flavor, cooked in the clay pots. We enjoyed! It also felt clean at the restaurant.

Came here for dinner. Its a nice venue with good quality egyptian cuisine. If you book In advance you can sit upstairs which is a bigger and cooler. Downstairs is a bit basic but still OK. The venue is full of tourists only.food is ok....Most mains have a spicy tomato sauce which is not spicy at all. Portions are a good size too. It was annoying that a cat kept running around under the tables which was distracting while trying to eat.More

As good as any restaurant we ate at in Egypt - I would describe it as an Egyptian culinary experience! Much better than the 5 star resorts we stayed at. This restaurant is owned by a company that runs a 5 star dahabiya cruise and...so is clean and credible for tourists. It’s slightly more expensive than other restaurants (but at 4-5 USD it’s a small price to pay for quality!). Every dish is unique and just so good! Thank you to our server Ibrahim who was excellentMore

During our stay in Luxor, Egypt, we ate a few times at Sofra. The first time, because we found good recommendations. And that was all that we needed to come back a few times after. The atmosphere is just great. Exactly what you are looking...for when having dinner in Egypt. The welcome has been very nice every time and they try their best to give you the spot that you like. We had dinner a few times and sat down on the upper floor, lower entrance hall and in the garden. The upper floor and garden are definitely nice places to enjoy. If you are looking for something more private, there are spaces available on the lower level. During our times at the restaurant we received great service and attention from Abraham. One of the very kind staff. When it comes to the food, we can say its was exquisite and delicious!!! They know how to create the flavours of Egypt and put them in a stew, grill, soup, juice, coffee/thee, and averything else that's on the menu! One day we had the mixed frill and veal stew with purple onions in spicy tomato sauce! WOW, the best food we had in a long time! If you go to Luxor, you can't miss out this restaurant.More

So, when we arrived in Luxor I did what we always do and check Trip Advisor for restaurant recommendations! We are here for 10 nights and so can try a number of places. We want to eat local food where possible and Trip Advisor along...with our guide on a trip and hotel staff recommended Sofra. The first night we went we couldn’t get a table ( I had not expected to need to book but hey, our mistake maybe, but they were quite dismissive and a bit rude) 2 nights later we went back and did get a table. The room is attractive, the staff friendly and the food was ok, the meat in the tagine was tough but the kofta were ok. The alcohol free beer that they offered was awful! It’s good value. However having now eaten at a number of other places I wouldn’t say it was the best.More
