Koshari Abou Tarek is an iconic spot in Cairo that truly captures the essence of Egyptian comfort food. Known for its unbeatable koshari, it serves a satisfying and flavorful combination of rice, lentils, pasta, chickpeas, and crispy onions, all topped with a tangy tomato sauce. The dish is hearty, affordable, and perfect for anyone craving authentic Egyptian street food. The restaurant’s fast, friendly service and simple yet welcoming atmosphere make it an ideal place for both locals and tourists. If you're in Cairo, it's a must-visit for a taste of this beloved national dish!

It's not just the koshary but the atmosphere and the service that makes this the most famous koshary in Cairo. It is delicious. More lemony flavor than tomato which I like, but you can make the sauce how you like. Fun to have the staff mix the sauce table side to get the show. A must do if in Cairo for a few days.

This place was close to our lodging and had good reviews on Google, so we decided to have lunch there. We paid 120 Egyptian Libras (for the couple and do not accept card). Only serve koshare, the dish was served, I couldn't eat it all, it's a mix of pasta with lentils, fries, tomato sauce etc,. The waiter was very kind, took pictures of us and "assembled" the dish for us, because the items come separately, it is a vegetarian dish.

It's a fast food place where they only make one dish. The pasta it had was a little soggy, we asked for a “Small” vol and they brought us a “Large”, and we insisted on a “Small” (I guess they saw us as tourists and wanted to charge us more. I say this because When billing we were given the “Large” price).
Even so, if you want to eat something quick and cheap typical of Egypt and without much quality, this is your place.

Koshary is a dish you will either like or not but when in Egypt you should give it a try. My husband and I each had koshary, which came with a little container of pita chips, my husband had sparkling water and I had a soft drink that tasted just like 7 Up. The food was fresh and presented with flair. I loved it, my husband thought it was okay. The servings were large but we saw another table order a smaller size so if you don’t want to overcommit you could ask for a smaller order. The cost was just 163 EGP which is ridiculously inexpensive for a very filling meal. Even though my husband didn’t finish his, he did not feel bad since it was so inexpensive. If you are in Cairo, I highly recommend this restaurant.

It's a place that first-time visitors to the city must visit. There's no other branch. The atmosphere isn't bad. The building looks lively and beautiful from the outside. It's very crowded, 5 floors, but we had a hard time finding a spot on the top floor. They're not very attentive, and you have to wait a long time to order.
The menu includes koshari, lentil soup in bread, and rice pudding (similar to rice pudding). The price is higher than usual but still cheap. Two koshari, one lentil soup, one rice pudding, one pumpkin pudding, one cola, and one water cost 230 EGP. When paying by card, they ask for a tip. I wrote 300; they said it was too little, so I gave 350. I didn't like that they weren't satisfied with the tip.

The place is not far from Talaat Harb Square and is a restaurant without a menu, you only eat Koshari, a traditional poor dish, with pasta of various kinds, rice, lentils, chickpeas, tomato sauce, to flavor then to taste. Frequented a lot by locals, it was Friday day of celebration, we appreciated the availability of the waiters. 150 lire in two (3 euros). Recommended.

Feels local despite being quite famous and popular. The Koshary was delicious and presented to us with a lot of theatre and humour by our waiter. We were definitely given the tourist treatment and therefore the tourist price (200 Egyptian pounds for the both of us) as they added a bunch of sides and soft drinks before even asking if we wanted them! It didn’t feel like a scam though, as it was pretty obvious what they were doing and we were happy to go along with it and in the grand scheme of things it was not a lot of money.

An Egypt trip is not complete unless you tried Koshary.
This place should be famous for this significant egyptian dish, therefore I chose it to enjoy some Koshary.
The waiters were all nice and they served me promptly.
They even prepared the portion, garnished with fried onions, chickpeas and a spicy tomato sauce.
The taste was amazing and the portion wasn't top heavy for the stomach.
The atmosphere was busy, but not overwhelming. I enjoyed my Koshary portion a lot!

There's no menu as they serve only one dish - kushari, which I tried for the first time and was surprisingly good. Medium size is enough when you're hungry, large probably only when you're starving. We were served by Asaad who not only found us a nice table and bring food immediately, but also showed us how to prepare it.
Additionally we paid only 150 EGP for two medium kushari and two mango juices (very good).
