I have absolutely no idea what half the roots and leaves are in the lunch set menu, but they were all delicious and beautifully presented. An oasis of calm in the hustle and bustle of Insadong!

We really enjoyed this beautiful restaurant! The decor and ambience was just so peaceful and our lunch was a great experience. They serve a set menu at lunch and dinner, lots of yummy vegan food but we couldn't get through it all.

We went there right after we checked in the first night we landed Seoul. Even if my friend lived in Seoul before and knows Korean, it took us some time to find it in the alley of Insadong. We booked the dinner section and there was a traditional performance. A lot of reviews mentioned this is a vegetarian restaurant, however,... More

A very lovely restaurant with nice ambience that is tucked away in a small corner of Insa-dong. They play chanting music in the background. You can choose to sit on floor or table with chairs. They have lunch at 33,000 won each pax and dinner at 45,000 won with korean traditional performance at 8pm. Dinner starts at 5pm. It's full course... More

Vegan restaurant, temple food. Enjoyed not needing to enquire about ingredients, just relax sit back and eat anything they put on the table. Also they did a show which was lovely.

Totally Vegan Must Visit place. Food was well thought out, everything is so pretty and yummy, despite you'll wonder how the heck they make kimchi without fish sauce?? Surprisingly delicious, couple with korean tradition music and dance, it definitely is an eye-opener.

I am Korean, but live abroad. I was in Seoul for a few days so went to Sanchon with cousins who live in Seoul. I was excited to try Korean vegetarian so my cousins were willing to try Sanchon. The decor was all over the place. It didn't feel peaceful or temple like- it felt frazzled and like it didn't... More

Second visit to this place. Loved the temple style vegetarian food. Food are prepared with minimal sauces so if you are someone who likes strong flavour you will find it quite bland. tasteMany varieties of mountain & wild vegetables I have never seen or tried before. Also loved the fermented pine tea which tasted like rice wines & the mulberry... More

Sitting down to a meal in Sanchon means allowing yourself to unlearn many things about anything you've tried before. Whether its Korean or another type of cuisine, Sanchon came up with many moments of beauty throughout my meal there. First of all, you need to understand that you will be tasting temple food. Korean Buddhist temple food. And this already... More

This is temple food. Foreigners will not know what most of the item are but that's 1/2 the fun. not cheap.

Staying in Insadong

Neighborhood Profile
Nestled between Jongno and Samcheongdong, this small neighborhood offers a crash course in various aspects of Korean culture. Rows of shops display traditional Korean goods such as pottery and earthenware, crafts, fans, and more, making it a popular spot for souvenir shopping. The Ssamziegil shopping complex in particular has become a local institution for its unique spiral layout and the many boutique shops inside that sell handmade crafts and goods. This is the perfect neighborhood to sample a range of Korean dishes, with vegetarian Korean temple cuisine restaurants being a popular draw, but street food carts are just as famous. As a top tourist destination, crowds can swell, particularly on weekends, but you can find some rest and respite in one of the private art galleries or grab a cup of Korean tea in a tea house – many of which are located in beautifully renovated traditional Korean homes.
