This is an old, but a modern-space chicken house in Myeongdong. Mainly serving tongdak(grilled chicken) and samgyetang(chicken soup). The price is a bit high of 15,000 ~ 20,000 won for one serving. But, it's not overpriced for what you get. I highly recommend this place...to eat or drink. - Founded 50+ years ago. This is a very old one in Korea. But, the current building is quite new. Foreign tourists would like it. - You can save money for a lunch set menu. It's still below 10,000 won and has several menus included. - We had 18,500 won Perilla Samgyetang. Very good one and big enough to have to-go for a remainder. - Also good place to chimaek(chicken & beer) which is a Korean classic. - Employees were so kind. And didn't mind to bring additional free side dishes.More

Food is ok.There other better ones around. The server upstairs were not friendly. They were unorganised. Took a long while to take order.Their attitude was just cannot be bother until my neighnour Korean customer had to remind them.to provide us bowls to drink the ginseng chicken...soup.Anything you need ,you will have to walk to the station to ask from them. You can be famous but if you do not buck up with your service, you will be overtaken by other restaurant.More

About: This restaurant has been serving two Korean specialties (chicken ginseng soup (Samgyetang) and roasted chicken (Tongdak) for over 50 years and it does not get any better than this. It's in the heart of shopping district Myeongdong so you will not miss it and...its a must try. I have tried this Korean speciality in other restaurants but this is really delicious. Food Ordered: There are two main dishes here. First is the chicken soup and other is roast chicken. I ordered the Ginseng Chicken Soup & Rice (no 3 in the menu, see menu picture). This is one whole baby chicken in a hot pot and enough for one person. But if you can eat more and have more people in the group then you can order the roast so all can share. But if you have to choose between roast & chicken soup, chose the latter as it is very healthy and beneficial in many ways. Note: There are three variants in this category depending on the type and age of Ginseng. But I suggest go for the one that I ordered as in other the strong smell of Ginseng may not be edible for you. You have to open up the chicken as there is rice inside so you can eat with soup. They have forks as well so don't hesitate to ask. They close 10 pm and are very busy round the clock.More

The "lunch special" (roasted chicken, soup, pickles, roll) was one of my favorite meals in Seoul. The chicken was crispy, tasty, and perfectly cooked… and the soup was thick and very yummy. It felt like comfort food. The manager and server were not the friendliest…...but the food made up for their lack of personalities.More

This restaurant has been around since 1960. I always come back to this restaurant for Samgyetang (ginseng chicken) because the chicken meat is always very soft. The roasted chicken is very crispy.

I've been to Yeongyang Center since I was a kid and loved their lunch sets. It came with fried chicken, soup, bread, and side dishes. I don't think I had their Samgyetang until I got older because I didn't like hot soup. I kind of...stopped eating at Yeongyang Center when I discovered Tosokchon Samgyetang near my grandma's house when she moved to that area. It was walking distance so my grandma took us there whenever we were visiting Seoul. However, she moved so we are no longer close to Tosokchon and I was craving for some Samgyetang. While shopping in Myeongdong, I walked by Yeongyang Center and decided to eat here like the good old days. I felt like a kid again and got excited to eat one of my favorite childhood meals. My friend and I ordered fried chicken and samgyetang with a bottle of beer. I personally thought the portions looked smaller than before but maybe it was because I'm looking at it as an adult now. I enjoyed the old school fried chicken and samgyetang but it felt weird to drink beer with my favorite childhood meal. LOL! It definitely brought back memories and I got a bit sad because I missed my family members who passed away. I don't think it was as good as it used to be but I still enjoyed my meal and would love to eat here again next time I'm in Seoul.More

A very simple menu that includes the famous ginseng chicken soup that is now so popular with Chinese visitors to Seoul. This restaurant has been around since 1960 and is now part of a small chain. This is one of the early restaurants and the...interior is vintage 60s, very cool. The chicken soup is a spring chicken stuffed with rice in a broth. Really hearty and very delicious. Wash it down with Korean beer. An absolutely perfect meal!More

We order e wild ginseng chicken and roasted grill spring chicken. The roasted chicken skin taste like deep frying type of koreanfrychicken however it's the more healthy kind. As for the wild ginseng it doesn't taste bitter at all. We even chew all the chicken...bone to bits and finish both in less than 10mins.More

Ate both the ginseng-soup chicken at the restaurant and took out the roasted chicken. Both were good but the roasted chicken is fantastic with its very crispy skin.

I was walking along the unknown lanes and get to come across this restaurant. Where there is a lot of people in the restaurant. Ordered a ordinary ginseng chicken soup. Maybe should try their roasted chicken as it was not a normal dishes in Korea.

The roast chicken is good. It is a small chicken. But you got to have the ginseng chicken soup. I am not a fan of the ginseng flavor, but i love the soup. The chicken in the soup was more tender than the roast chicken.

Yeongyang Center Tongdak Gui is a household name in Seoul with a track record of 55 years dating back to 1960. The restaurant started off selling ginseng chicken stew or samgyetang but has widened its repertoire to include fried chicken. Unlike southern fried chicken which...is dusted with flour and seasonings prior to being deepfried, Yeongyang uses spring chicken and fries them quickly without adding anything to it. It is served quartered and customers can opt to order an entire chicken or half. Diners are expected to tear it apart and eat with their fingers, dipping the meat to a tiny saucer of rock salt served on the side. A tiny receptacle for chicken bones and a box of napkins are placed on every table for customers' convenience. A wet napkin is also supplied and if desired, customers may ask for a pair of plastic gloves though nobody does so. Yeongyang Center's 'chicken table horte' is a set meal available only for lunch on weekdays and is priced at ₩9,500 per head. It is a great option for first time visitors to the restaurant who do not fancy a heavy meal of samgyetang with rice. The set comprises half a fried spring chicken served with a fluffy bun, shredded cabbage and cubes of pickled radish. The locals spread butter on the bun and dip it into a small bowl of thick, floury vegetable soup before tucking into the spring chicken. I found the chicken to be surprisingly tender despite being deepfried; only the breast meat was a tad dry. The 4/5 rating is for the fried spring chicken, the speedy service and the bright, clean and comfortable environment. Tables in restaurants operating out of the expensive shop space in Myeongdong are always cramped close together and rubbing elbows with fellow diners is commonplace. Not so at Yeongyang Center where tables are spaced apart; dining here is a pleasant rather than a stressful experience.More
