I have been traveling through Georgia for a month now and when I arrived in Tbilisi I knew the price of food would go up being the capital and all. This restaurant is a hidden gem that gives you the full cultural experience of Georgia....If you are truly looking for that authentic feel and a place to get away from that touristy feel then you have found the right place. It is the cheapest restaurant I have found and the food as been very good every time! I would recommend this to anyone traveling through Tbilisi. Make sure you bless Aunt Elsa!More

I was looking forward to coming here because of all the positive reviews. The place is local alright but totally lacks cozyness. The food is between ok and good, maybe I chose particularly average dishes.. Waitresses don't speak either English or Russian, not even bothering...to simply be polite and say "hello" or "thank you". Of course you cannot pay by card. I guess for a large company it can still be fun to come here, but for me as a solo traveller it was a rather miserable experience, especially against the backdrop of most other places in Tbilisi which are friendly, comfortable and serve great food.More

The cheapest, yet most amazing local food you can have in Tbilisi. A very lovely and local atmosphere, much like a little tavern, super quick service and delicious food. I visited here as much as I can, and looking forward to be back again. EGGPLANTS...ARE OUT OF THIS UNIVERSE.More

Mapshalia focuses on the Megrelian cuisine of Western Georgia. It’s my top favorite restaurant in Tbilisi because of tasty food, normal meal sizes, and very affordable prices. The menu is not big and offers some of the best staples of the Samegrelo region. Here is...what I suggest for you to try: Elarji (grits with cheese) accompanied either with Bazhe (cold walnut sauce) or Kharcho (hot meat stew with walnuts), Megrelian Khachapuri which is a normal one topped with extra cheese on top, and Kupati (Georgian sausage made from pork intestines).More

I read a few reviews and headed to Mapshalia. The tip off to me should have been the limited number of reviews. Obviously, to each his own and I would agree that the food price is attractive to the traveller's budget. However, my choices were...all no better than average. The space was attractive to a degree. It is small, funky, below street level. I was sat in one of a number of small private rooms set off by swinging "Hollywood western salloon" style doors. This seems fun and intimate, but the single stark light bulb over the table made everything feel cold and uninviting. I felt sort like how I envision interrogation rooms in novels. The other problem was getting a servers attention required getting up or causing a scene in some fashion. One could overlook the mediocre fare if the harsh light would not bring out every blemish on your or your dream dates face in the little hideaway. A few easy adjustments could make this place much more attractive.More

I live down the street from this restaurant and I now eat here several times a week. I love this place. Prices: Kharcho - beef soup (4 Lari) Fries (2.5 Lari) Lobio, similar to mexican refried beans (2.5 Lari) I generally only look for cheap...restaurants with good value. I have found that the price of a salad determines how expensive the restaurant is. This place charges 2.5 Lari for a salad! That's about $0.93 cents!!! Most restaurants charge 5 Lari, others are a bit higher, like in Fabrika. Prices right down the street and nearby are much more expensive. This is a hole-in-the-wall (agree with @SelenaH's comment). Best value for your money in this area. Have not found a better place to go. The only thing to note is that Kuchmachi Beef is not what it looks or sounds like! Google this before trying it, unless you are into heart, liver, kidneys, spleen and lungs of beef... This place is fantastic. I ate here for breakfast at 9am today... and have eaten here 5 times last week.More

In the middle of a very long street, you could easily miss this great place. The ambiance is casual and the food amazing and very reasonable. We are two couples, one of which is vegetarian and we were all able to choose from several dishes....We shared various salads, greens, tomato salads, beetroot, beans in a pot, house bread etc. Don’t hesitate to seek it out.More

Literally a hole-in-the-wall! There are English menus but you can probably point to anything on the menu and it'd be good. It's also cheap which is a plus!
