I went to this place some time ago but I absolutely wanted to write a review. I hope it is still opened. The restaurant is hidden in the back streets of Souq Waqif. Look out for the signs that can guide you to it. Don’t expect a fancy restaurant Doha style. On the contrary, if you are looking for an authentic place to eat Qatari food, this is the right spot. The restaurant is run by local women who do the cooking and serve the food. The menu is simple but the food is amazing and homemade. It is great value, incredibly affordable. I always enjoyed going to this confidential place for a warm moment with friends around an authentic meal. No fuss, just the taste of homemade traditional food that will give you a glimpse of the true Qatari culture… Don’t leave Doha without trying this restaurant.

After eating at a lot of Turkish restaurants, I was looking for a traditional Qatari restaurant near Souk Waqif (old market) in Doha and read about this restaurant on other blogs. Based on the date of the blogs and my inability to find it, I suspect it closed during the pandemic. However, I found a similar traditional Qatari cuisine restaurant that was great. The only signs outside were in Arabic and the entrance looks like a shop. It is inside the souk close to the Yemenese and Italian restaurants and closest to the street that has the Gold Souk and rug shops. There is a large hall inside and the food was great. I wish I knew the name but I attached a portion of the menu. The lamb dish was fantastic. The fish dish of Hamur (grouper) was very good (be careful with the bones). The chicken was ok. I did take out for my family and we all enjoyed it (and no one got sick). Highly recommend it (if you can find it).

Authentic! What a lovely little find! Most of the food In Doha is not qatarian! So I spent a lot of time looking for a restaurant that served authentic qatarian food. It was off the beaten track, quaint and just perfect!!!!

Came across this restaurant when wandering around the Souq Waqif, having followed signboards stating 'traditional food'. The inside of the restaurant had a feel of a home. I ordered the lamb biryani and was not disappointed. The food appeared to be cooked after the order is made. Fragrant, perfectly cooked rice and lamb that was tender and tasty. Highly recommended.

If your schedule allows you to choose only one restaurant in Doha to eat in, let it be this one! A number of Qatari ladies have clubbed together to open this unique little tavern that serves only home-style Qatari cooking, not something you're going to find at many of the other touristy places in the souk or elsewhere. The service is fast and friendly, the food delicious, but places are limited so get there early. Oh, and it's so reasonably priced it's almost embarrassing!

Al Jasra Traditional Qatari food is a unique food experience in The Souq Waqif of Doha. Firstly, it’s hidden away in a very quiet back alley of the Souq but there are signs to it (you need to look carefully) and it is on Google Maps to help you find it. My understanding is that it is run by five Qatari women who cook and also serve the food. The menu is small, inexpensive and great value. But the downside is it all depends on what’s available at that time. I had to come back earlier another day to eat here as during my first visit they had pretty much run out. But it was worth it! The food is traditional Qatari (I believe) and delicious. I had the biryani which came with some sides - all charged at a very low price. Service is fast but wonderfully friendly & relaxed All in all highly recommended, authentic & delicious food that feels like you’re having dinner at someone’s house. Added bonus is how quiet the street is and that you’re supporting some entrepreneurial ladies.
