About
Kampai is a Japanese sushi restaurant whose name means "cheers" in the mother tongue. Though most guests seek out Kampai for its deliriously delicious sushi, the traditional Japanese cooking (you know, the hot stuff!) Is also noteworthy. Don't miss the siu mai and gyoza dumplings-a few of these melt-in-your-mouth savory bundles, stuffed with your choice of shrimp, fresh crab, chicken, wagyu, or shiitake, will sufficiently whet your appetite for the subsequent course. Here, we recommend the Kampai Maksushi, an assembly of tender scallop wrapped in a lightly-fried panko crust and topped with grilled salmon. Perfection.

Nice zen atmosphere. Service almost perfect . The waiters so helpful and friendly. The sushi and the other foods were tasty and fresh. Nice place to visit. We paid around 120 usd for 4 persons.

A favorite for sushi is Beirut. The menu has quite a good selection and everything is delicious. The setting is nice and the service is very good. Their salmon sashimi salad and their tuna sashimi salad are very good. Highly recommend.

Located in the trendy „Little Dubai“ district near Phoenicia Hotel. Very friendly bar staff, quality of food very good. Nice drinks and great music. Prices are on a higher level but compare well on an international level.

Very bad experience. Ordered soba noodles and got white fast food noodles, fried rice came with corn and mushrooms, miso soup had mushrooms, tomyum tasted like miso with red paste spice, tempura shrimps soaked in cocktail sauce. Food came in weird order, they forgot the drinks. And so expensive. So NOT worth it. Will never go again.

Beirut is noticeably on the mend after the 2020 port explosion that devasted the city leaving hundred’s dead. With a favourable terroir, land and sea, and some decades of French influence, you can look forward to great food. There’s a simplicity in great Japanese restaurants that adheres to the adage, same, same, but different. The décor is very simple and no less elegant and contemporary for it. Located between Zaitunay Bay, Downtown and the political district, it services a demanding clientele. That the menu has no prices on the printed version might make a first-time visitor uneasy, but worry not. Due to currency instability, which has led to the beginning of nationwide dollarisation, pricing can be fluid in Lebanese Lira. There is a QR code that will give you current menu pricing in US Dollars. This is very common and should not worry you. You will be far too interested in the fine range of offerings, the wines every bit as appealing. Sea salted edamame for the immediately famished enjoyed, it was time to place both feet firmly inside. Fresh salmon maki put a smile on my wife’s face, pre and post, much like a child getting a small ice cream cone, albeit this one in wrapped glorious dark seaweed. Ordered from the salad menu, odd given the greens were really tasty garnish, were two helpings of crispy spicy salmon. Sashimi salmon in popcorn popping panko crumb and a light late lingering spice. If we were ordering in stages, I’m not sure we’d have eaten anything else. Tuna and salmon sashimi were on point, fresh ginger and wasabi likewise. Three separate sushi platters arrived next. There were a few of us. I’m not sure I’ve seen a mango ura maki before. The colour was joyful and like its neighbours disappeared systemically into us happy diners. I opted for the wagyu foie gras, ordered and served bleu. Merci chef. Both were similarly butchered for their plating, served as two fractured asteroids one atop the other. Holding it together was a thuddingly thickened teriyaki sauce. From the nose up to my eyes, everything was alight. It cut like butter and melted similarly in all our mouths. As I write this an hour later, its ghost still happily haunts my mouth. The service is good, efficient, the waiters know their menu and can talk for it. I don’t know when I’ll be back in Beirut again, but if I am, I’ll dine here at least once.

The restaurant has a nice decor and a hip clientele (which I can almost guarantee will never include actual Japanese people). The rolls were OK. But the noodles and fried rice were absolutely sickly sweet with sugar. It's too much, guys. The fried rice was just rice, sugar and lashings of soy sauce with a few prawns; that's not proper fried rice (which should not be served in a Japanese restaurant anyways). We also had the teriyaki beef; the flavour was OK but half the pieces of beef were totally raw, and the waiter clearly didn't care. (I will say the veg that came with the beef was tasty). The panko shrimps were OK. The "Japanese" green tea was some Lipton blend that is NOT Japanese sencha or anything like it. I would also avoid the over-breaded and tasteless tempura. My suggestion to the mgmt would be to shorten the menu and–crazy suggestion here– just have solid Japanese food. (Tom Yum soup, stir fry, fried rice, in a restaurant called Kampai? Why not add Indian curries while you are at it?) It's a classic problem common to many mediocre restaurants world-wide: trying to offer too much choice. In so doing, they do far too little. Maybe the other reviews are indicative of how much Beirutis love this place, but I say there are just too many other sensational restaurant choices in Beirut.

Became a regular at this place whenever I am in Beirut. Food is excellent (the best Sushi in town) and staff are superB. Kudos to the Manager -- Tony -- for his warm hospitality [always] and for great management of the team.
