This was one of the best things we did in Jordan. We love to try and understand how local dishes are made when we travel, and have had cookery lessons in several countries. It helps to also learn what certain flavours are - e.g. -...the 'lemon' flavour in the soup was not lemon but sumac . This cookery lesson was definitely the best we had done.
Whereas other times we had watched someone else cook, and taken notes, this was very hands on, and my sons learned some good skills in onion chopping and garlic crushing, and the confidence to get in and season the food and prepare well.
There is a great team at Beit Sitti, and although the owner was away we felt we had a really good cook, and good explanations of what was being made, and of course we got to eat the results which were delicious. It was great to be able to buy the spice mix that was being used, so that we can have a go at recreating the dishes, with the recipes being on their website.More
