Another Moroccan style restaurant that we wandered into one evening is the Fortuna located at HaArmonim Street 2 just steps from the shuk. The location allows them to pick the freshest produce available. Fortuna looks like a hole-in-the-wall place, but the food is great and...the prices are reasonable. It’s location just off the main street of the shuk is hidden from the many shuk’s tourist attractions. If you’re looking for “ambiance” or a place to impress your first date, this isn’t it. But if you want a family place with local color, try Fortuna.More

Don't expect good service here. Entered this place and asked to charge my phone (emergency) and said I'd buy a drink so I wasn't just taking up space. Despite the place being mostly empty, the host (stocky bald guy) told me straight away he'll need...me to move if there's not enough tables. 20 minutes later my friend joins me at the table. About 20 minutes after that the joint has filled up more, the host comes over and asks us to leave. There's still a free table inside and a few outside and I point this out. My friend offers to buy a drink himself. The host just ignores us. I tell him again my friend is going to buy a drink. Again he ignores me. Finally his friend walks me out and tells me they only serve people who buy a meal. I tell him his friend (the host) is rude. Then this 2nd guy tells me to never come back. I won't. Avoid this place, I'm sure you can get similar food and much better, friendlier service in the area.More

The meal was excellent at a good price. We had skewers and filet mignon (which is unusual at kosher restaurants) and it came with salads. They refilled at the start but then stopped doing so - I guess they would have if we asked for...more refills but the waiters seemed engrossed in other things than coming over or looking at our table. The food came quickly and was very good (and there were left overs for the next day)More

This is the second time we have visited this restaurant and it does not disappoint. You can make a whole meal of the salads which come with every main dish. Not only are they plentiful, but also surprisingly tasty, some of them in ways we...had not experienced before. The portions are generous and the salads and french fries keep coming throughout the meal. Though the restaurant is small, it is relatively quiet, especially for this area in which restaurants and eateries tend to be noisy and crowded. The staff is accommodating and friendly and though we arrived on a night when staff seemed to be fewer than usual, they rose to the occasion. While the prices of main dishes are higher than elsewhere in the market area, it is well worth it in view of the abundance of salads, pitas and french fries.More

We entered this restaurant on a whim, because the decor appealed to us. It is a small restaurant in the area of the Mahane Yehuda market. It has a limited menu, but whatever they do is good. Main dishes are served with unlimited french fries...and an impressive array of salads. The pita bread is grilled and delicious. The main dishes are abundant, so much so, that I could not finish mine. The staff is warm and efficient. Even the selections of music were good ranging from American tunes to Greek, Arab and Israeli - Mediterranean music. We never felt crowded even when the restaurant was full. Nor did we feel it was noisy. We had a wonderful time and highly recommend it. The only drawback is that it is not cheap, though also not expensive, in view of the variety.More

Our dinner at Fortuna was good, not amazing. For the price, I would try somewhere else in the future. We had the Jerusalem mix and the kabob. The chicken in the Jerusalem mix was flavorful but overcooked and a little dry. The kabob, described as...'hamburger on a stick' was quite tasty, but not that exciting for 74 NIS. The salads were great and a really nice variety served immediately after you order. At the end of the meal as we were paying, a waiter accidentally shattered a glass all over our table and partially on my lap. It was completely an accident, but I think they could have offered a little sweet or drink as compensation for having to brush glass shards off of myself as I left the restaurant.More

Our tour guide David took us to this little gem of a homey, casual Israeli restaurant where you select your meat or poultry and you are served an unlimited flow of small dishes of Mediterranean dips, Mediterranean salads, local vegetables (the best eggplant you will...ever have), pita and amazing french fries to name just a few! The lamb chops, chicken kebobs and chicken schnitzel were among the savory dishes we had and this was a truly authentic and delicious meal in the market in Jerusalem. This chef really knows how to cook and flavor his dishes. The restaurant is small and not pretentious but just one of the best finds I experienced in my short trip to Israel. Totally a must go to if you want the freshest and tastiest regional food and not looking for a fancy setting. It is an experience when the keep bringing all the small plates to the table and they disappear so quickly! I would recommend to anyone going to Jerusalem who wants a real treat!More

Not fancy or sophisticated menu, great service, good meat skewers (entrecôte and baby chicken), very good salads- about 10 different kinds, not cheap but pretty good value, nice manager
