This place was fantastic I heard about it from a friend who had recently honeymooned in Istanbul. The ambiance was amazing, the staff was over the top (traveling with a blonde companion in Istanbul was quite the adventure and I think the wait staff just wanted to keep her)! Our food was very good (we both ordered seafood) and the... More

What a better way to top off a visit to historic Constantinople, than to eat dinner in a 1500 year old Roman - Byzantine era cistern (underground water reservoir)? It is hard to believe that the stone walls, high arching ceilings and towering columns were actually meant to be underwater and not a part of someone's palatial palace. I have... More

The restaurant is in the heart of old Istanbul, and is unique - is located in the millennial tank with high domes supported by six stone pillars, on top of a hill at the end of a number of small hotels just behind the Hagia Sophia. The atmosphere inside is very romantic, like in an ancient medieval castle. Need to... More

In a Roman Cistern with a roaring open fire in the winter - it's the place to enjoy a meal for a special occasion. Great Service, superb ambiance and consequently a little more expensive than other restaurants - but worth it.

Staying in Sultanahmet

Neighborhood Profile
Sultanahmet
With so many unmissable attractions within a mere stroll of each other – and all set around the site of an ancient Byzantine hippodrome – Sultanahmet is an overwhelmingly popular tourist destination, and a prime location for visitors to be wowed on a truly epic scale. Beyond the wonders of the Blue Mosque, the Hagia Sophia, Topkapi Palace, and more, this relatively small area of Istanbul somehow manages to retain an air of peace and calm. It offers visitors a significantly less celebrated but nonetheless pleasant network of quaint lanes and side streets, majestic panoramas of the Bosphorus, and an impressive assortment of accommodation options for all budgets and tastes.
