-We have tried several turkish coffee house, but this one is definitely the one we will remember. We could see the coffee's traditional preparation process - exactly what we were looking for. The coffee house is owned by a family, they were really friendly. -Prices were under the average, 5TL for a coffee. Recommend it to anyone who loves coffee... More

I drunk black Turkish tea. It was nice and cheap. You can also try Turkish coffee. It is a very small and warm place. I went in winter and chairs in outside were taken inside. Mandabatmaz may be better in summertimes. It is located in Istiklal Street which is the most popular street of Istanbul.

I somehow stumbled upon a newspaper article on Cimil Pilik. There was his picture: looking straight at the camera, with his neatly combed gray hair, big brown eyes, classic mustache, faint, mysterious smile, hand on cezbe, cigarette in mouth. The article discussed how Mandabatmaz has been a tiny coffee shop operating in the very same spot off İstiklal Avenue for... More

Prior to this visit to Istanbul, I spent a fair bit of time on the internet trying to find the best place for Turkish coffee. This one seemed to come up repeatedly and, as we were staying at a location not too far away, I made it a point to pay a visit. I was not disappointed. It is fairly... More

Was finishing the 2-week stint of Turkey in Istanbul enjoying the crowds along Istiklal. Spotted a few coffee places just off of Istiklal in the side streets so decided to try those (over the course of 2 days). This was the best of them (how can the same 5TL cup of coffee be different?) and came here and found out... More

Heard about this place from a friend who knows I love food and coffee. I went out of my way to find it, and will go back again before I leave Istanbul. I honestly did not know that any Turkish coffee could be so head and shoulders above the rest of the Turkish coffees I've had... But I will remember... More

There are certainly tiers of Turkish coffee, and this little spot is in the best-of tier. I enjoyed sitting in the quiet small street drinking completely traditional Turkish coffee made with great care. Certainly one of the top 3 cups I had in my 9 day stay.

This tiny place is located at a side street at Istiklal. There are some low tables outside the cafe, where you can enjoy this very thick Turkish coffee. I left it untouched for 5 minutes and then I drank it with pleasure. Do the same!

Staying in Beyoglu

Neighborhood Profile
Istanbul’s most famous street, pedestrianized Istiklal Caddesi (Independence Avenue), throbs day and night and offers a fantastic array of architectural sights, shops, treats, and throngs upon teeming throngs of people. At the avenue’s northeastern end is expansive Taksim Square, thought by many to be the very heart of the city, with many of Turkey’s most renowned restaurants and some of Europe’s most happening nightlife in close proximity. In striking contrast, Beyoglu’s less trafficked areas – such as the affluent Cihangir and the antiques district of Cukurcuma – exude Old World charm and provide contemplative calm and splendid diversion via an assortment of cozy cafes, attractive boutiques, and quiet lanes.
