The menu will give you a sense of what real Turkish meals are other than kebaps. You can also have vegetarian meals too. For me one of the best indicators of a good restaurant is the tea and turkish coffee served. Both of them should...More

Visited for breakfast with great expectations since the place is advertised as an Ottoman cuisine. However, we were disappointed as the quality of breakfast plate was really poor and quite expensive (38tl for a very simple plate! I guess 5tl for the food and 33tl...More

Pricey yes... but it is an oasis after a long and dusty walk in the old quarter. Managed by Divan group it is a good place to take a breather. Wish management would be better though, many of the wonderful authentic features have not been...More

This old monastery was converted to an first Ottoman school in Istanbul and now a restaurant serving breakfast, lunch and dinner. The views of Istanbul are fantastic from its elevated position along the golden horn. It is difficult to find, even for the local taxi...More

Fener & Balat
This sleepy and rather socially conservative area of
Istanbul hosts a small but thriving Jewish community,
the patriarchate of the Eastern Orthodox Church, and
some of the most beautiful churches and Christian art
in the world. Much of what’s most interesting to
witness in Fener and Balat sits between the surviving
ancient city walls of Constantinople and the serene
shores of the Golden Horn. Despite the many splendid

This fancy pricey restaurant is located right next to Pantocrator Church (Zeyrek Mosque). It has a wonderful view to the East and the Suleymaniye Mosque, and is probably very popular with some tourists. However the service is truly awful. No matter how well you are dressed, if you have small backpack you are not treated with respect. Let's warn our readers about this bad restaurant. A much better choice is the very authentic, welcoming, and very reasonably priced restaurant one block further down the street called Zeyrek Cafe. What a contrast, and what a wonderful find. Its location in the historic Zeyrek District makes it a great place to enjoy a very tasty meal served by friendly staff. I highly recommend Zeyrek Cafe instead of Zeyrekhane Restaurant.
