The Biryani here is the best in Istanbul. The meat is indulgently good, the bread very succulent, and the waiters are very nice. I ordered a Lamb Platter and the Lamb was so good. The best of all is this place is open until midnight.

Good and fast service for a georgeus meal. Abundant portions with great flavours. The area where located gives you nice flavour of the cosmopolitan city that is Istanbul. Accessible by bus and next to historical district.

This is where the locals dine. You get a huge portion of food (I recommend the mixed or lamb), at a very reasonable price. After your meal, you can stroll around the area for shopping that is less tourist and more local (cheaper prices).

Good food. Cheap and spicy. That's something new in turkey and loved it. Get 2 and you'll be satisfied. Lamb is wonderful and authentic. I will come here again.

We had lunch here and were pleasantly surprised. The food was great, the waiter friendly and quick. We ate on the terrace in the sun on a Sunday afternoon. For two main dishes served with a huge salad and drinks we paid about 15 euros, so I think it is also a great value.

We came across this place by coincidence, and we were very surprised. The food was very tasty and the service was more than helpful. They have large portions for fair prices. Just ask the staff for some guidance, and they are happy to help you

Tasty traditional food. The meat tastes original and the service is very good. Good prices as well. Variety of dishes. And the area is full of Turkish traditional goodies

Staying in Fener & Balat

Neighborhood Profile
Fener & Balat
This sleepy and rather socially conservative area of Istanbul hosts a small but thriving Jewish community, the patriarchate of the Eastern Orthodox Church, and some of the most beautiful churches and Christian art in the world. Much of what’s most interesting to witness in Fener and Balat sits between the surviving ancient city walls of Constantinople and the serene shores of the Golden Horn. Despite the many splendid sights, historic attractions, stunning vistas, and warm Turkish welcome, the area remains largely unperturbed by the tourist trade that characterizes the atmosphere in nearby Sultanahmet and around the Grand Bazaar. Travelers that like to explore off the beaten track will reap big rewards for making the effort to visit this low-key part of town.
