Well worth a visit
Well cooked lamb meatballs and kebabs
Traditional lentil type soup
No frills service very reasonably priced
Very popular with locals which shows your getting good food at a pair price
Every time I am in Istanbul, I come to this restaurant, just lovely meatballs and beans salad, my favourites, greasy cooked and served, friendly staff, clean, and always busy. However, do not accept card payments. Only cash.
The original Sultanahmet Köftecisi in Sultanahmet has been serving quality food for good value since 1920. They now have many stores in Turkey and abroad even.
Signature köfte dish (beef meatballs) - 15 TL (£2)
Try also piyaz (bean salad), or the classic irmik helvası...(semolina dessert)More
When we went to Istanbul the first thing we tried was sultanahmet koftcisi. The food was really nice especially their famous grilled meatballs. The waiter was really friendly and could also speak english. Overall this restaurant was really nice.
Whenever we visit Istanbul, we visit Sultanahmet Koftecisi - even more so as this year was its 100th anniversary .
As always, the food is simple and delicious fare, with a few options ( Koftas, Kebabs and salads ) at a reasonable price - especially...considering its location near Blue Mosque, Haghia Sophia and the main tram line servicing Sultanahmet.
Food is served with soft, warm bread rolls and optional chilli sauce ( not very spicy by Indian subcontinent standards. ie, mine :-) ) .
The only reason that I have not given this a five star review is because of the lack of a smile from the staff . It might have been that the staff were having a particularly stressful day, but a lack of warmth did make me question how welcome and wanted my family and I were.
Food was really good at a reasonable price, however.More
This restaurant has supposedly been around for 100 years, so you'd think it must be great. We found it just OK, though. Food was delivered fast, but without a lot of concern of feeling. We had the meatball lunch. OK, but nothing special. They also...charged us for bread we didn't order. They only accept cash. We weren't much impressed.More
This place is 100 years old as was open in 1920. I guess the food or setting didn’t change much. Really nice and easy quick lunch. We had koftas, lamb skews, bean salad, fries and 4 bottles of water. The bill came to 102TL only!...They bring you bread and the chef gave the boys some free halva which was fresh and delicious!More

With so many unmissable attractions within a mere stroll of each other – and all set around the site of an ancient Byzantine hippodrome – Sultanahmet is an overwhelmingly popular tourist destination, and a prime location for visitors to be wowed on a truly epic scale. Beyond the wonders of the Blue Mosque, the Hagia Sophia, Topkapi Palace, and more, this relatively small area of Istanbul somehow manages to
retain an air of peace and calm. It offers visitors a significantly less celebrated but nonetheless pleasant network of quaint lanes and side streets, majestic panoramas of the Bosphorus, and an impressive assortment of accommodation options for all budgets and tastes.
