I don't know where to start. These guys were absolutely amazing! Everything, from food to service was flawless! The meal was extremely delicious, and the staff was really professional, kind, and polite. You should definitely visit to Rumeli if you want lovely dinner and taste of Istanbul. P.S. They have heating system outside, which is perfect for chilly evenings :)... More

Love the delicious meal, friendly service & romantic ambience at night. The background music set the mood right. Tips: order a Testi Kebab (pottery kebap) for a sumptuous meal with extra performance.

Friendly and lively atmosphere to complement the good food and prompt service. Great variety on the menu drawn from various regions of Turkey. Our favourite dish was the lamb with plums. We looked forward to a return visit and made sure we got one!

I just happened upon this cafe while walking around looking for a place to have dinner. I had the tangine and it was wonderful! Staff were very friendly and helpful. Lovely to sit outside on the street and people watch. Highly recommend it.

I am really into mezes and here they were fresh and really tasty. A meze plate (vegetarian) is enough for one even for dinner. Fresh-made food with lots of herbs and vegetables.

During heavy rainfall we stepped into this cafe by chance. Sitting under a rain proof blind and a warm heater in the back we ordered some Turkish lunch. Different starters and a main course have been excellent at fair prices.

We stumbled upon this place by chance (didn't have a wifi connection to check trip advisor!) but we were glad we ended up here. I had a most beautiful fresh salad. The service was friendly and professional.

Nestled in the tourism precinct of Sultanahmet, Rumeli Cafe is an ideal location for dining while people watching the nations of the world from the restaurant’s streetside terrace. Summertime sees the opening of the rooftop dining area, where guests can gaze at the stars and glimpse at the minarets of the Blue Mosque. When the weather chills in winter, the allure of the restaurant moves inside—where the gentle crackling of open fireplaces invite guests to stay a while to appreciate a glass of mulled wine paired with a rich Ottoman dish.

Set in a former Ottoman print house, the restaurant has become one of Sultanahmet’s most loved restaurants since the building’s renovation in 1994. Now it’s famous for its friendly service and intimate dining areas with dark wood floors, wrought iron fixtures, and exposed red brick walls—an atmosphere reminiscent of dining in a foregone Byzantine palace.

Personal favorites on the menu are the grilled marinated calamari, the Ottoman style Marmara A’la Rosto (roast beef with rice and vegetables), and the seafood linguini. Also on the menu are international favorites; regional specialities such as Ali Nazik (minced lamb and beef on a bed of pureed eggplant, yogurt, garlic and tomatoes); Byzantine dishes like Papaz Yahisi (stewed lamb and vegetable served with cumin and garlic in a terracotta pot); and fresh seafood including seabass, sea bream, and jumbo shrimp. Vegetarian options are also available.

Staying in Sultanahmet

Neighborhood Profile
With so many unmissable attractions within a mere stroll of each other – and all set around the site of an ancient Byzantine hippodrome – Sultanahmet is an overwhelmingly popular tourist destination, and a prime location for visitors to be wowed on a truly epic scale. Beyond the wonders of the Blue Mosque, the Hagia Sophia, Topkapi Palace, and more, this relatively small area of Istanbul somehow manages to retain an air of peace and calm. It offers visitors a significantly less celebrated but nonetheless pleasant network of quaint lanes and side streets, majestic panoramas of the Bosphorus, and an impressive assortment of accommodation options for all budgets and tastes.
