Unfortunately, the first review of our new tripadvisor account needs to be negative. We fell in love with this place and would have become regular customers had it not been for the very poor management of a situation. Food was great, staff superb and the...wine selection second to none. BUT if you happen to go to this place, make sure you clarify the price of the wine. The modus operandi of this establishment is this: they have a cellar, you go in, pick up the wine and they give you a price. They basically tell you that they will charge an additional amount for drinking the wine in the restaurant. On this occasion, we were advised by the manager that the wine was priced at 10000 tenge per bottle (20 quid). We had two bottles and, to our shock and astonishment, when they handed us the bill, the wine had been charged at 46000 tenge (90 quid), which means we paid more than double the price in the cellar, not a simple additional fee. We tried to get an explanation from the manager himself, who could not come up with any reasonable answer. Neither did he utter an apology nor offered a future discount to make up for his lack of business vision. He clearly took the chance to overcharge us just because we were foreigners. In sum, DO NOT GO THERE.More

I made reservations at Provino for my wife's birthday. I made the reservations 2 days in advance, then I called again on the day to confirm. I actually had a Russian speaker call for me in order to ensure there were no misunderstandings. "No problem,"...they said. When we arrived, they said, "sorry, closed" and wouldn't let us in the door. We explained that we had reservations, to which they replied, "we have a private party. We didn't have your telephone number." Well, first of all, that's because they didn't ASK for it, but what kind of restaurant would cancel a birthday reservation at the last minute anyways? I have been to a lot of bad restaurants in my life, but I've never been treated with such disrespect and unprofessionalism. I would strongly recommend not giving your money to people who treat their customers in such a way.More

Cozy little wine shop with about 8 tables. The food looked and smelled amazing, though we only had some mulled wine, which was some of the best I've had. Excellent selection of bottles as well.

The right place if you like wines and liqueurs. Charming ambience with a sort of "cellar" where hundreds of bottles are on show to choose. Prices are for the "take away" if you drink it in the restaurant a surcharge of 60 (sixzero)% applies. Be...careful some are more than expensive. But we had some wines by the glass and paid a very reasonable price. Very short menu. The beef was not bad, overcooked even if I specified rear red. The zabaione dessert totally untasteful, avoid.More

It is a very nice, and small, place near the Congress Hall of Astana. The selection of the wines is considerable and the food is very tasty. Ossobuco with rice and duck with vegetables: both very well prepared. But .... in the menu rice with...truffle was written: neither flavour nor smell of truffle was recognisable. The waiter should have warned me that the truffle was not available. If you want to drink a bottle of wine during lunch or dinner, the cost is increased by 60%. Too much !!! I recommend to reserve the table.More

I have fallen in love with this place from the first visit and have visited it numerous times while living in Astana. Provino has everything for wine lovers: great selection of wine, wine tasting evenings (used to be a weekly occasion) and a tapas styled...menu on offer to accompany drinks. Other good thing is that they also have an extensive selection of other alcoholic beverages including most types of hard liquors and even cider (! which is not that easy to find in the city). The place also provides opportunity to purchase alcohol on a reasonable price which is fantastic option especially after wine testing evenings :) and scores extra points for amazingly friendly and helpful staff. The only thing i can think of complaining about is size of portions most dishes are pretty small. Recommendation: look out for special events!!! Last December i have attended Christmas dinner which was an amazing experience with 5 course menu accompanied with 5 types of wine! Definitely a must visit place in Astana!More

Provino combines a wine cellar, distillery and a very good restaurant. During our one week stay in Astana we have visited them twice and really enjoyed the atmosphere and food. On the last evening there was a, for us unexpected, wine taste event of excellent...Spanish wines. Although all information of the wine was presented in Russian, we will definitely try to get these wi Es when we are back in Europe.More
