I had lunch in this restaurant for 2-3 times during my stay in Astana. This place was 15 minutes walk from my place, and I enjoyed this restaurant. The service was quite fast, the prices were very OK in comparison with Moscow prices :) I always ordered dishes with meat and they were always good. There was WIFI.

I was there several times and really enjoyed the Lagman (noodles) and Donner (I think) ; kind of looked like a burrito but wasn't - - it was big and tasted nice. Located on river with a horse statue with it's rear facing the Turfan - - some of us affectionately referred to the place as the "horse's...butt" when we... More

The place is nice enough, with lots of presumable local students as waiters, whom you have to call up expressly (eye contact and patience won't help). Children-friendly and inexpensive. Serves Turkish and other Turkic food. Not a small menu to look through, but the choice is usually made easier by the fact that some items won't be available. I liked... More

The restaraunt is situated on the river bank in the old city center near the Central City Park. If you plan to visit the place choose the outdoor tables (if the weather allows) and enjoy a fresh wind while tasting the food. I liked the food, portions were rather big yet a bit too salty for me. The prices are... More

I've visited three times, most recently in April 2016. Turfan has two menus, one Turkish and one Chinese/Uighur. Most dishes are good (I especially liked the manty with meat and zhusai, aka Chinese chives or jiucai) but I've had a couple of disappointments (thick, rather bland lahmacun and extremely bony fish). Inexpensive. Multiple servers share responsibility for tables. I expected... More

I wouldn't bother to come here unless I wasn't on a tight budget or driving past being hungry. The service is OK though, but mind the dodgy guest desperate to get in trouble with you.

Recommended to me by friends. Food was authentic Turkish and served fairly quickly. Worth a try! On the corner around from the United Nations building and next to the river.

Turfan has got it all: inexpensive, tasty, great location. My favorite here is Uigur lagman (a noodle dish). Try it fried with wild green onions. A couple of not-so-good points: there is always a food smell, so in the warm season stick to the outside. They also stopped serving alcohol, which is a pity.
