Here is a quaint and unpretentious place which offers a great meal without the higher prices one might expect in a place offering this quality of food. Everything I sampled was excellent. Chez Gaston will apparently be relocating soon - keep an eye out for...their new location. Definitely worth a visit.More

What a pleasant surprise Chez Gaston turned out to be. My friend and I have a series of restaurants that we routinely visit, and only occasionally try something new. A different French restaurant was on our favored list, but when an acquaintance suggested a visit,...we stopped by. There are a small number of tables and a bar in the rear. The atmosphere is appealing, with agreeable lighting and no garish music. A chalk board upon entry lists the special of the day - with different featured combination of starter, main and dessert each day. The cost of the set menu is $13.50. For that price you also get to choose a drink of choice, which can include a glass of house red or white wine if so desired. An extra bonus is that if you arrive before 8 PM - and sit at the bar - the whole deal can be enjoyed for $10. Without a doubt, the best value I know of in town. The food was exceptional. Rich, deep layered flavors that made me take a second look at the plate with each bite. Without naming the French restaurant that was on our list of favorites, suffice it to say that Gaston in clearly superior. My first visit was the middle of last week. It wasn't the last - I was back the next night and found a seat at the bar. It's quite fun to walk in not knowing what I might get. Based on my back-to-back visits, it's sure to be excellent - regardless of what the offering might be..More

Searched for 'best French restaurants in Phnom Penh' and found Chez Gaston. Small, intimate place. We did the three course dinner at the bar. Only 10 dollars for a drink, a salad, duck, and sweet pancake desert. This is definitely one of the best deals...in Phnom Penh, definitely enough food for a 180cm/75kg male, 6ft/165lbs. More duck too than we got last week at the Lyve hotel.More

The deal at Chez Gaston is the 10 usd “dine at the bar” meal…between 5:30pm and 8pm. Over five or six samplings, it has been excellent and it includes a starter, a main, a dessert and a beverage, which can be a glass of the...house wine. Don’t expect huge portions at this price, but for me, I’d rather have a smaller amount of well-prepared food for a lesser price. I don’t need the extra calories. Dinner only, no lunch, but open every day.More

Thank you for sharing your experience at Chez Gaston. It is true, the $10 meal at the bar is a great deal for people enjoying good food at a good price point. And it is also true the portions are smaller than "á la carte"....More

The cook is really masterised. From entry to desert. A truly delight for the taste buds. Then, by waiting your order, the master of the place perform just in front of your eyes some magic tricks. Menu write in French, English, Chinese and Japanese. And...what to say about the price... It's like given.More

Authentique French food. Copious dishes unlike the “French” restaurants out there that are more of an art gallery than a restaurant. Highly recommended. Also, there’s a discount if you eat at the bar before 8 pm, $10 for a three course meal and a drink.

Unpretentious small bistro with excellent renditions of French classics — oeufs mimosa, escargots, duck confit, beef dishes, and classic sides such as gratin de pommes de terre. Decent wine list — much better than most in town — and you can bring your own for...a very small corkage fee. Very reasonably priced — specials including an appetizer, a main dish, a dessert, and a drink run around $14 (or $10 if you sit at the bar!) Bruno, the charming owner from Meaux (of mustard fame) is there to please you. His new baker is making excellent bread. We did not have dessert but chose instead to have some cheese with the rest of our wine. A lovely evening. We’ll definitely go back.More
