We were just here yesterday. The sushi rolls that we ordered, red and green, were very good, even excellent. The service was good, not excellent, as the staff was no where to be found. We sat in non-smoking, smallest and least comfortable area in restaurant....Although nobody was smoking in the smoking areas, it had a stench. All in all, we would go back, as we know what to expect and the sushi was quite good.More
So the first experience here was pretty bad a few years ago, but we've come back a few times and I have to say that everytime we came back, we did with joy. Thank you for the awesome sushi! I have to say the interior...itself is also very well done! My only request. Please. please make the music be more japanese-oriented as that totally helps with enjoying the interior along with the great food.More
I never complain, I absolutely hate complaining but at The Kyoto Lounge I felt like I had no choice. The menu looked good, and my friend and I thought it would be interesting to see the Armenian take on Japanese food.
We ordered 2 Caipirinhas...which were on their cocktail menu, they came out and were definitely nothing like they should be. They were served in a tall cocktail glass with a stem, there was no ice in them whatsoever, sugar or alcohol from what we could taste. See the attached photo. We sent these back and ordered 2 local beers instead, being under the impression that it would be impossible to screw this up. So more than 10 minutes later the beer came out, and it was warm.
We had ordered some sushi as a starter, bizarrely this arrived at the same time as my friend's main course. They came and cleared the sushi plates away, and my friend ate his main course. 20 minutes later, mine still had not arrived and my friend had finished his. I decided I no longer wanted it so I asked them to cancel it and bring the bill.
I told them we were happy to pay for the sushi and my friend's main course, but we didn't want to pay for my main course or the beer. I was astonished to see that they had also included a service charge, they then proceeded to take turns in coming out to see us while they disputed each element of the bill, this was a rigmarole which lasted about 20 minutes. We reluctantly agreed to pay for the beer even though it was warm and undrinkable. The only reason I agreed was because I was under the impression the staff would have to account for it.
I think this was the first time I have ever complained in a restaurant, but the service was absolutely deplorable. A waitress threw her arms into the air in a defeatist manner, as though we were being completely unreasonable. We really weren't, and we were really nice about it as well, we just said we felt the service was unacceptable. They were completely surprised that we were complaining, and did not see our point at all. They just thought we were being awkward and rude and that we were really nasty people.
Advice for the future:
1. If a customer politely states they're not happy with their cocktail, don't take 10 minutes to bring them a warm beer.
2. Unless your staff have at least a basic understanding of simple cocktail making, don't put them on your menu.
3. Serve people's main courses at the same time, and AFTER they have finished their starters.
4. Teach your staff some basic customer service skills, especially when it comes to complain handling.More
The food is ok. Although, the skewers beef and chicken wasn't eatable. Had to wait more than 15 minutes to order and more than 30 minutes to get some food... Asking for it they replied: "do you want to have the cheque?". No! I just...wanted food!More
