About
The Propaganda menu, with its fresh spring rolls, noodle salads & crunchy rice bowls features simple yet amazingly flavourful food prepared with the freshest local goods. Think 100% local, envision “redesigned” home cooking, all with Vietnamese ingredients only, home-baked bread for the banh mis, home-made tofu (with and without egg), home-made ice-cream, home-made soya milk, home-made everything! The propaganda art on the walls is a take on a very local art form that came to life in the 1940's. Our mural was commissioned by us and designed by a local artist. It is a happy rendering of the Vietnamese country and city life. Our cushions, bench seats and napkins are in tune and make the experience complete, an immersion into a Vietnam gone by...

Visited Propaganda last weekend whilst in Ho Chi Minh for a couple of days, and on the recommendation of a friend who lived here for 6 years. It’s in a great part of the city, very central and has a really good vibe. We sat outside watching the world go by, sipping on gin and tonics and apple cider-perfect! Also ate here, my friend had the pulled pork báhn mí and I had sautéed prawns with coconut rice. Good food, and good service in the heart of a wonderful city! Thoroughly enjoyed!

We opted to sit inside for two reasons: AC on a very warm night, and to enjoy the murals that cover the walls inside the restaurant. The murals are scenes of the Vietnam people living their lives as the proletariat. The restaurant has a bistro feel to it. We were seated immediately and given menus printed in Vietnamese and English. Our server spoke and understood English very well and helped us find t-shirts (sizes run small) which we upsized after trying them on. Food and service were great. Reasonable meal prices once converted to US dollars. Highly recommend the place.

Propaganda is a popular restaurant for many good reasons. It’s such an inviting place with interesting and colorful murals that help set its very cool vibe.
The menu items e had, spring rolls, spinach/beef salad and tofu salad with edamame, corn and black rice were delicious.
Service was a bit slow but it was really busy and there was no rush. It’s set across the street from beautiful parks adding the great location it occupies.

Terrible, rude service. And the manager did not intervene or care one bit. When I arrived there was no one to greet or seat me, so I walked around. The waiter saw me and (kind of) seated me. There was only one table of two people at the time. The tables at this place are quite small (smallest tables I have ever seen); too small for two people to eat without feeling cramped. So I asked for the waiter to put two tables together because I did not want to feel cramped when ordering dinner with my date. The waiter left me without responding and I was still standing in disbelief because he did not give me a menu or seat me. I had to walk over to him (since he was the the only waiter and there was no hostess) to ask again if he would join the tables. He rudely replied that one table was "ok" and then rushed off rudely to the one table that he had. I then went to the bartender and told her that the waiter was very rude to me. I told her he acted rude to me three times. I then told her I would never spend a dime there. The bartender looked to a nearby table where the manager was sitting playing with her phone. I looked at the manager and told her the same thing. She sat there and said nothing. In short, this place is a disgrace. Don't take a chance on receiving the type of rudeness and incompetent service i was exposed to. Go where you are treated as if you matter.

Propaganda Bistro is an emblem of emerging capitalism in Vietnam. The bustling restaurant attracts locals and tourists alike.
We found the food to be mediocre, nothing exciting, and the service was slow. Even popular Vietnamese dishes that are usually tasty at almost any restaurant in Ho Chi Minh City weren't outstanding here. But it's edible, just not memorable.

Delicious selection of Vietnamese foods. The quality was really excellent and the atmosphere and ambience in the restaurant is also very trendy and hip. A really great night full of delicious food, we enjoyed the omelette fresh rice paper rolls, duck curry (seriously good), grilled pork bun with fried spring roll, banana cocoa nut milk smoothie and a dessert of dark chocolate ice cream. Heaven in every bite, highly recommend! Make sure to make a reservation.

My wife and I had dinner here on our first night in HCMC. We were given the recommendation by our tour guide and it was a great spot to introduce ourselves to Viet Cuisine. The staff helped a couple of rookies make some good food and beverage selections. There was a good mixture of locals as well as foreigners eating and drinking there so it was not a tourist trap which we as travelers to a new country try to avoid.

Our party of 4 had a very good meal at this restaurant. It is a casual modern Vietnamese restaurant at very reasonable prices. The staff was poorly trained and not attentive. We received our apps and main food at the same time. Our drinks never came and we had to ask for them after our food was served. There is both an outside and inside air conditioned dining area. The fresh rolls were excellent and the other food was very good but they need better trained staff. I would recommend this restaurant but provide very good instructions to the waiter and hope he or she delivers.

Oh I'm so sorry... My heart breaks when reading this. We are encountering the same staffing issues as everyone else in the world (yes even here in South-East Asia!) and the people you saw had not yet been trained. We are working very hard on it and hopefully this will be solved in the next few weeks. Please come back next time! We will be back to our old standards. Thank you.

Why? Fantastic food. Thoughtful menu, based on the best of local produce. It's not fancy, but it's well cooked and well presented, and isn't too rich (OK apart from the chocolate nemesis however that was special) or fat laden. And there's something for everyone, even the hard to please (vegan/ gluten free - you know who you are :-) ) And it's all super tasty and authentic. The sea bass came with little potatoes and a generous serve of garden fresh veg, and a herb pesto, Sensuously smoky babaganoush came with generous chunks of crispy carrot and cucumber - great way to kick off with the Heart of Darkness pilsner (fab local craft beer brand). Excellent wine list, somebody knows what they're doing. The servers were friendly and knowledgeable if a bit rushed, great music, great vibe. Loving the sound of the breakfast menu, it captures the vibe of various food capitals (e.g. San Fran, Melbourne, London), and I'm keen to see how they handle coffee. If you're sick of eating out, and looking for really decent food without fuss, this is the place.

It has taken 9 days in Vietnam to finally eat a meal that lives up to all the hype about Vietnamese food I heard before I came here. Propaganda is a proper restaurant, pardon the pun. Wonderful specials list, attentive professional service and a cool vibe make Propaganda special. Excellent drinks list as well. Highly recommended.

We love the food here, been three times and enjoyed everything we’ve had. This time, though we noticed that all the young wait staff was more interested in loudly talking and interacting with each other sitting at the bar than serving customers. A server did not come near the table unless I went up and asked. 17-02-19 evening. Disappointing.

Day one in HCMC and day one on holiday anywhere in Asia. I certainly don’t write this as an expert - there will be others on this site with much more knowledge and experience than I.
Came to Propaganda on the recommendation of a work colleague.
Having walked the streets I don’t doubt there are better value, better quality and more ‘authentic’ meals to be found in the City. But if you are not yet confident enough to go to a vendor with no menu or prices, or if you are still sceptical about snacking on quail eggs cooked on a pavement - then this is for you.
The food was really good. Fresh, flavoursome. Starter of chicken rolls was a real highlight. I had the beef pho (it was the best pho I have had since the only other pho I have ever had). I thoroughly enjoyed it and the portion size was generous. Service was a bit patchy. At 450k it seemed expensive. I would come back here. I would recommend it to others. But I also want to be confident enough to try other places in the next few days that will be what this isn’t.
PS Saigon Special Bia is a thing btw.

We came here by chance as it was 2 blocks from our hotel and had a very nice outdoor seating on a busy street with a big central park across it. However, the seating is not that comfortable as many tiny tables are packed in a relatively small outside area.
Waiters are very kind willing to help you and recommend dishes. Menu is not that extensive, but still have to choose.
We ordered 3 appetizers and 3 mains. All were delicious, slightly higher priced than others we ate later, but pretty cheap for western standards.
I wouldn't go out of my way coming here, but if you're in the area it's convenient to stop.

Absolutely lovely food with plenty of flavours. The place is on the smaller side but we booked online before hand so this wasn’t a problem. There’s also seating outside which is sheltered incase of bad weather. Lots of good options on the menu, something for everyone. The staff are welcoming and friendly, and spoke good English. They even bring you a bowl of nuts while you’re waiting for your food to arrive, which didn’t take long at all. We had two mains, a side of spring rolls, and two drinks, and it came to just over £20, which is amazing. Definitely a place to try if you are in the area.

Located in a very bubbly area, lots of cafes and restaurants to choose from really, but the vibe and first impression we got from Propaganda made us stay.
The place was packed, we felt it was mostly locals, so that meant it has to be good.
The staff was very friendly and gave us a table in no time. I would recommend tho to make reservations ahead. I guess we were lucky really to get a table.
The interior is very colourful, the design is very cool. The atmosphere is loud but in a good way.
The food was delicious and plentiful, we only had a pho and some spring rolls, but the portion was so big it was really enough for both of us.
The service was fast and efficient, not so personal but it was ok. I recommend this place for social gatherings and dinners surely.
