With a ceiling mural of the Northern Lights, the airy dining space is a nod to chef Tung’s stint in Finland. On entering, diners first catch sight of the open kitchen before they are greeted by the chefs. Only one multi-course tasting menu is offered, and it changes every three months in line with the seasons. Chef Tung’s small plates are creative and original, paying tribute to Vietnamese food culture in terms of ingredients, flavours and techniques.

This is the place that I would love to splurge my money on haha, how they came up with every dishes still astonished me 🤯 the creativity is insane, it’s kind of hard to find this kind of fine dining experience in HCMC so I’m very happy to have a place I can be “boogie” sometimes 🤣. But seriously, the value given from its price ~USD 100 is beyond reasonable and worth every single penny. I like how this fine restaurant is very approachable, like it’s not crazy formal or serious but chill, young and artistic, like really relaxing vibe, but still offers high standard food and attentive service.

Contrasting the busy streets of Saigon, Å by T.U.N.G boasts a modern and serene setting that celebrates the art of fine dining.
The Chef elevates Vietnamese cuisine and brings his own touch of sophistication on local flavours.
The signature “Pho” course with fermented green chili, torched A5 Kagoshima Wagyu, consommé gelée, assorted herbs and a side of hot pho broth was invigorating and effortlessly melting in the mouth. Other honourable mentions include toothfish served with curry and roasted pigeon with its jus and homemade oyster sauce.
Hoang Tung’s focus on his craft and sauce making is perhaps what makes his establishment stand out from the rest of the dining scene in Saigon.
Service was attentive during both of my visits. Every dish was well-explained. Smart and concise wine list with bubble options such as Billecart-Salmon and Taittinger. Or there’s a very reasonable corkage fee of 25 USD should you prefer to bring your own bottle.

I just had an amazing dining experience at A by Tung in Ho Chi Minh City, and I can’t stop thinking about it! The decor is absolutely stunning—modern and chic, yet warm and inviting. You really feel like you’re in a special place as soon as you walk in.
Now, let’s talk about the 15-course tasting menu. Wow! Each dish was a little work of art. The Iberico pork was hands down one of my favorites—so tender and flavorful. And the deconstructed pho? Just brilliant! It was a fantastic twist on a classic, and every bite was packed with deliciousness.
The service was also top-notch. The staff was friendly and attentive, making sure I had everything we needed without being overbearing. You could really feel their passion for the food.
One thing I hope they consider is adding an à la carte menu in the future. While the tasting menu is incredible, I’d love the chance to revisit and enjoy my favorite dishes again at my own pace.
If you’re in HCMC, do yourself a favor and check out A by Tung. It’s a dining experience you won’t want to miss!

Without exaggeration, one of our main reasons to return to Vietnam is to dine here. Located in the Saigon’s traditional area, A by tung is without doubt one of the best restaurants in Vietnam at the moment, had dinner at TUNG dining – Hanoi’s flagship restaurant in November 2019 and came back in November 2021, that’s how memorable it was, and again this time in the new venue in Saigon it exceeded our expectations, impeccable service, beautiful food that you know you would not easily find anywhere with very reasonable price, definitely a place to always visit. Saw a person wearing flip-flop or otherwise really dressed down and hope the restaurant would apply their dress code, but no complaints otherwise. Naturally, this was the great meal we had during our a-week trip in Vietnam.

Having visited T.U.N.G dining in Hanoi five years ago, I still fondly recall it as one of the most memorable dining experiences I've had in the city. Thus, upon hearing glowing recommendations from my Asian business partners, I made my way to their sister restaurant, A by Tung, in Saigon. It was a delight to witness the chef's culinary DNA expressed through the dishes served. Each course was a true pleasure, complemented by attentive service within the exquisitely designed dining room. Although it is regrettable and pellicular that this establishment did not receive recognition on this year's Michelin star in Vietnam, I extend my best wishes to them for their future endeavors. My heartfelt appreciation goes out to the entire team.

Such an amazing experience. We had 15 courses, each with their own incredible twist on the dishes we grew up with. We were lucky to be able to snag a reservation a few weeks before Valentine’s Day and enjoy their valentines tasting menu.
From amazing amaebi, foie gras, crab, wagyu, lobster and Iberico pork, every fish was a fantastic homage to your standard Vietnamese dishes. Our table was so grateful to be able to share this experience together. The service was top notch and we left fully satisfied. Every year we visit Saigon, we are amazed at the growth of the food scene.

One of our friend came back to Saigon and we made the decision to revisit A by Tung, At this restaurant you won't be let down. They offer only tasting menu, Each dish was meticulously cooked and beautifully presented. Service was always attentive and knowledgeable. Overall, it was a fantastic dining experience!

I've visited this restaurant several times, with my two most recent visits being during the Chef Takeover and in January 2024.
Chef Takeover Experience:
Food: 3.5/5
Staff: 5/5
The food during the Chef Takeover was okay, though it did take a long time to be served. The staff, however, were excellent.
When I returned earlier this year, the food was incredible. The presentation was stunning, and the taste matched. Each dish came with an informative card detailing its story and ingredients, which added a nice touch to the experience. The staff continued to be outstanding.

I have been fortunate to have eaten at two of the world’s great restaurants with tasting menus, Akelare in San Sebastián, Spain, and Central in Lima, Peru. While A by Tung is not in that class, it gets close to the “conversation.” I understand its Hà Nội restaurant has been open for a few years. This Sai Gôn one is just a year old.
The room is up a winding staircase is soft-toned & reminded me of a comfortable living room in a upscale but minimalist home. It was quiet, and the handful of tables were spaced far apart.
The early dishes (of the total of 20) were seafood-focused. The plating (presentation) was exceptional. Each dish was explained, accompanied by a little card with a photo of the dish and commentary. The scallop was exceptional, as was the prawn dish. Each dish was accompanied by sauces and/or seasoning that took real creativity to envision and skill to execute. The palate cleanser dish led to the meat dishes. A wagyu beef dish, an Iberian pork dish, and more. We finished with 2-3 desserts that were tasty to eat but even more “tasty” to see.
This is an expensive meal and required a $50 deposit per person, I think weekends only. My only complaint is that the deposit had to be a bank transfer. Why not accept a credit card payment. Service was polite & explanatory.

We were treated by our children for our wedding anniversary while visiting HCMC. The personalized service was impeccable. Every dish was explained to us as well as being provided with a card with additional information (at the end of the meal,we received a gift of the cards with a personalized note).
The food was fabulous. Impeccably plated, delicious, bold and imaginative. We have experienced some of the finest restaurants in the US (among them Nobu, Le Bernadin, Per Se, Minibar and others) and I will say that our experience here was quite comparable.
We would definitely consider returning to your restaurant in the future.

There’s a great deal of skill on display at A by Tung. Some of which is pulled off nicely with other dishes falling flat.
From what I understand, the owner of A by Tung worked at some high-end spots in northern Europe before coming back to Vietnam to open his eponymous restaurant in Hanoi (and now, HCM).
Bad:
Many of the courses felt unfocused—like the chef was trying to mimic what other chefs cooked in restaurants he worked in or dined at.
Some of the sauces were overly sweet too and made me think I was having dessert when I was only on the 3rd or 4th course—a bit jarring.
Almost none of the fish courses impressed me. The toothfish and shrimp tasted as though they were not fresh or at least not of the same quality that you’d get in Scandinavia or Japan.
Good:
The duck, foie gras and beef were all excellent and melted in my mouth.
The service was well-meaning and friendly, albeit, a bit rushed.
Each course was artistically plated.
I enjoyed most of the desserts, with the expectation of a liquid filled lollipop that was reminiscent of cheap, melted candy.
Overall, I’d recommend A by Tung—I enjoyed the food and atmosphere. But if you’re coming with the expectation that it’s Noma or Gaggan, it’s not.

My partner and I had a dinner at A by Tung few days ago. We had been in Tung dining for dinner before and we excited to visit their sister restaurant after pandemic. As regular visitors of Michelin-starred restaurants our expectations were high (absolutely after we enjoyed the dinner in Hanoi) And our expectations were exceeded.
Like many other top-notch restaurants, A by Tung has a good ambiance and exceptional service. The waiters are not too strict and are friendly, efficient, and very well informed. The entire experience was beautiful with first class execution and inventive menu dishes. The exquisite dishes were superbly presented and did not disappoint our palates. Hat-off to the creativity and courage of the team to deliver this concept it in Vietnam. Just stunning and a must if you are in HCM city.

Been to degustation menu restaurants before and this one was extremely disappointing. Couldn't understand most things waiters and waitresses said and the price of the wine pairing was poorly explained. Paid over 2.5m as opposed to 1.5m. Food was average at best

I ate there yesterday with my wife. We woke up this morning both sick. We got indigestion from something probably not fresh. It’s unacceptable to pay such price to get sick.
It has the look of a fine dining restaurant, the dishes are well presented but the taste of most meal were not extraordinary. This place focus mainly on the look but not on the taste, a lot of meals were sweet. If we didn’t get sick I would have given 3-4 * but as we ended both stuck in our bed ou in our bathroom, I can only give 1*
