I was planning to visit there. But I’d never, in my life, expect that I could laugh while reading the comments that replied from a GENERAL MANAGER of a restaurant, who was supposed to spend more time on service and quality cuisine instead of writing...essay. Interesting and Naive.More

It’s not worth it the price is ridiculously expensive Lots of good reviews so I have checked the menu. Spent nearly 2 mils but just a taste. Been to Hokaido and 5 star restaurant but the price of Kasen is like very very expensive. Food...is good but tiny portion so..... 1 person would spend minimum over a milion. Mắc kinh khủng mà, món có tẹo thôi nên ăn vừa bụng thì mỗi người phải hơn triệu 😢More

Unfortunately, a group of 7 persons spending 1.8 million vnd ($75 usd) on the total bill at any fine dining restaurant will have a difficult time enjoying the experience.

Atmosphere(No BGM), Service, Food qualities are not meet any of basic quality. Ordered omakase set for 2. including Orion beer and I paid 4Mil VND. I am the one ok to have fancy dinner. but it was too poor quality and service to pay over...4Mil. I also dont review in general. But if you are really like Japanese food. Please away from this restaurant. Here Omakase is more like fusion tapas. Just go Hokkaido sach.More

Kasen is one of a handful of Omakase style restaurants in Saigon and is definitely worth a visit. The fish I was served tasted fresh and relatively speaking — the prices were reasonable. My guest and I had the 11-course seasonal menu which was just...under US$60 per person. Mind you, most omakase restaurants the world over are often twice that amount and then some. Unlike some of the reviewers here, I’ve only been to two other omakase restaurants (Sushi Rei in Saigon and Sushi Masato in Bangkok). And I’ve never been to Japan (for what it’s worth). As I mentioned above, the food was delicious and the service was warm and understated. I thought the pacing of the dishes was good too. My complaint is mostly about the physical space of the restaurant. Part of the pleasure of being served at a sushi bar is watching the chefs create your food. Unfortunately, the bar at Kasen is so high, that you can hardly see over it without standing up and moving your body forward. I’d suggest lowering the bar so people can actually see the chefs in action. My second complaint is the lighting. Boy is it bright in there. Having lived in Vietnam for over 5 years I realize that people here don’t focus much on ‘mood lighting’ — everything has to be lit as though we’re in a shopping mall. Dim the lights, focus them on the chefs preparing the food and that’s all. Good lighting is important. Lastly — music. It was distracting hearing pop, rock, and other random music play in the background (even though I love Fleetwood Mac). May I suggest some modern ambient music? It's picayune, I know, but both my friend and I were thinking the same thing. It was just incongruous with the setting and the food. My three gripes might seem silly, but when you’re spending money at a restaurant like this, it’s not just about the food — it’s the environment and experience. I’ve read some of the caustic (often amusing) responses from the owner (or) manager on here so I can only imagine what he’ll say…More

Kasen was the culinary highlight of our Vietnam trip and one of the best seafood experiences I’ve had. I grew up in the business, having owned 3 seafood restaurants in Boston so I am certain that anyone who appreciates quality seafood will be blown away...by the preparations at Kasen. The dishes are beautifully prepared. The quality and selection of fish was phenomenal. We had the pleasure of conversing with the proprietor, Chu Kim, and his expertise and knowledge made the dining experience over the top. I highly recommend Kasen.More

Kasen was recommended by a friend here in Saigon. When we visited for the first time we had such a great time talking with the owner and how he explains the food and the drinks that they offer. Ever since that first visit we always...come back here and even bring our family and friends whenever they come to visit us here in Saigon. This is definitely our go to date night with my husband. We become regular customers of the restaurant and highly recommend it because not just food is amazingly good but the owner and his staff are very attentive and friendly.More

This is my hands-down favorite Japanese restaurant in the city. They have these absolutely delicious beef "tacos", eggplant miso, and fatty tuna that melts in your mouth. If it's your first time, it wouldn't be a bad bet to just go with the Omakase set...and re-order a dish or two if you can't help yourself! They've got an excellent selection of sake and an owner happy to walk you through your options. Highly recommended!More
