If I were reviewing for authenticity of ambience Ky Y would merit five stars. But I’m not. The food, contrary to what others suggest, was simply very poor compared to the other three Japanese restaurants we have visited in Hanoi. I lived in Japan for...ten years and am a sushi lover. Though we made advance reservations and came at a time when the restaurant was not especially busy, all of the sushi seemed to have been made up in advance. There was only one piece which seemed freshly prepared. None of the side dishes was up to par, and the egg used in the sushi set seemed to be of the type that can be purchased at the supermarket. The “Japanese” unagi was I like any I’ve ever had in ten years in Japan. Seems almost certainly to be of the “frozen, imported from China” variety. Japanese only in style of preparation, but very dry. The miso soup was also disappointing while the “nimono” was awful and the tsukemono barely qualified as having been pickled—wrong flavor. I should mention that offering nattou as a side dish with sushi, but with no rice to put it on was a strange concept. Contrary to many reports, service wasn’t bad but nothing special, either. Ky Y is an amazing Japanese restaurant i have ever been to when i was in Hanoi. I suppose you to choose Okonomiyaki if you dont know what to order in their diversity menu. And everytime can not wait for the palatable taste! Definitely recommended!

I work in office so I ordered food in this restaurant sometimes via phone. Some receptionist (telephonist) are very helpful with my order, some don't and today, this is it for me. The one answered my phone was just so rude. I wanted to order...a box of sushi but I mistakenly called it 'a bento of sushi' (since I didn't know how to address my order). Then she talked to me like I didn't know what is sushi what is sashimi with a voice made me feel like I was looked down on (but of course I know sushi and sashimi). Also, she raised her voice and seemed like she was ready to have a fight talk with me; instead of helping me finding my order. In the end, I cancelled it because I was so angry with her attitude. Never in my life I order in this restaurant again for me and my family.More

I have a lunch with my friends. There are variuos sashimi, fishes, japanese eel, soba noodle... Very delicious food. Japanese chef (or manager) is very polite. We booked a private room which have a huge window, look toward Trieu Viet Vuong street. This room is...so suitable.More

We had a private room which was old and dirty. Service keeps running out closing the door even so we are in the middle of talking to them. You place your orders and they close the door and walk off half way thru. I have...never seen this in my life anywhere. This goes on all the meal. Every time we need something they leave half way thru the communication, never repeat anything and therefore get the orders wrong and miss items as well. Food solid which is the good point. We did not enjoy due to the miserable service but food was good.More

Don’t get me wrong, Ky Y is good. Expect fresh sashimi, tasty skewers, nice tempura, waitresses who can speak some Japanese, and a traditional Izakaya feel. There are more Japanese than tourists and locals combined so it’s a really authentic jap eatery. But I just...cant get past the mosquitoes (and vice versa). I sat at the counter on the first place and within a few min, I was being bitten relentlessly. Then I saw them flying around but I was too polite to swat at them in front of serious-faced Japs. Was almost in tears. Then the waitress gave the fantastic suggestion of moving 2m away to another seat. I had no idea mosquitoes have a 2m flying radius. Fact.More

I come here often by myself. The food is delicious, fresh and plentiful. Especially, Ky Y has fresh wasabi. Staff are polite and helpful. Ky Y makes me feel like Im eating at home, cosy, comfy and delicious. If you go with a group of...people, they have private rooms upstairs. If you go alone or only 2, sitting at the bar is great.More

We know the owner of this restaurant. He is a young but hard working Japanese man. his restaurant has been famous in Hanoi for a long time. We want to have authentic Japanese food that why we came here. The restaurant has three floors with...multiple private rooms. You are welcome right at the moment you walked into their door. All of the staffs would say "Irrashaimase". They then guide you to the place you want to seat. The compliment appertizer is already served when you come in. We got the cold towel to wash our hands immediately. The menu is brought right after that and one staff came to you to introduce what are the best fresh fish available of that day. The food came just 15min after we ordered. Everything was perfect and fresh. We had Sashimi, mixed tempura, Chawanmushi (steamed egg), Okonomiyaki, Takoyaki (Octopus grill), salmon and seaweed salad, edamame. Each portion is small so that you can taste a lot of things in a meal. They also tell you (also the picture) how small or big it is, so you know exactly how much to order. Dessert came with ice and fruit. With two drinks, the whole dinner cost us 70 USD! This is the best Japanese food in Hanoi with very reasonable price.More
