Opened in November 2015, Jalus is dedicated not only to serve healthier and whole food but also to commit to work with local producers to seek for the best ingredients. Everything is made in-house from scratch and we support disadvantaged and street Vietnamese youth.
We were expecting a better meal since this vegan restaurant was recommended by the Lonely Planet Guide, but were disappointed. The presentation was nice, but the lasagna and the featured pho soup lacked flavor. We needed to eat again after leaving.
The restaurant isn’t real...easy to spot. You really need to navigate to it and look for the sign above an alley that leads to some stairs.
There is a small washroom downstairs. There is also some outdoor seating on a balcony.
All in all, we won’t go back simply because the food didn’t satisfy us especially for the price we paid.More
Overall, a sound pick - Recommend!
Wife and I have been here once - early 2019 for a beverage and to check it out. The atmosphere is in line with the menu - simple and fusion.
Since changing how we eat this summer, Jalus, in...our experience, is worth visiting. After eating the gnocci (delicious, 3.8/5.0), pasta (4.3/5.0), and varies rolls (all tasty), we find we always (re)ordered the baked sweet potato (solid!).**

I have been to Jalus twice and eaten there once. I had heard that the service isn't great. The first time I thought the service was a bit lacking, noone to greet customers and difficult to get the attention of staff. This isn't a big...place so it shouldn't be as hard. The food was okay, pretty average but also not cheap compared to other restaurants in the city.
However, this isn't a huge deal. I was then in contact with the owner on Facebook: they were preparing a chirstmas set meal. 3 courses and a drink. Now there was a Christmas dish however the deal stated you could choose any dish from the menu. I really wanted a nice christmas dinner with my partner on Christmas Eve. I thought I sould give the restaurant another try as I really wanted a vegan Christmas meal cooked for me. I reserved a table for 2 people with maybe a weeks notice. We arrived yesterday. Upon entering I noticed there were no tables reserved for any bookings but luckily there was one vacant table. No staff to greet us so se sat down. When the waiter came over with menus, I asked to order the set meal. He told me 'no, they don't have it'. One of the dishes offered was spring rolls which were coming out to other people. So I asked what he meant as they had the food. I then showed him the messages stating that I had booked in for this specific meal. He said those messages were to the owner and not the staff and they can't honor the deal again saying they don't have it. I was quite frankly disappointed with the apathy of the waiting staff. We left and I messaged the owner expressing my disappointment, I was not messaged back. The managing and service in this restaurant is awful. I will not go back.More
Please note that I am a new vegan, so I don't know how to compare vegan restaurant options.
I visited Jalus because I was in the area and I am new to veganism. Another reason I visited is because Trip Advisor and the Happy Cow...app both state that the restaurant serves pizza, but it was not on the menu.
I like the company. The menu has the restaurant's history and philosophy. It was nice to see a restaurant that is not just in it for the money.
The space is a little small and I can see how it would get noisy and crowded fairly quickly. Luckily, I visited during lunch on a week day, so I was the only person in there. The place is clean and there is a nice ambiance. They explain it in their menu: they play soothing music and have a diffuser with scented oils.
I had the mushroom tofu burger and spring rolls. Both were pretty good, especially considering the fact that this was my first time having a completely vegan meal at a restaurant. As I mentioned, I did not see pizza on the menu, which is why I really visited the restaurant. But, I was happy with what I ordered.
Very fast and attentive. Spoke pretty good English.
My bill was 193,000 VND (roughly $10 USD), which I consider to be a good value.
I will definitely visit again if I am in the area.More
Went and sat at their outdoor/rooftop seating (it’s located in the second or third floor I believe) which overlooked the old quarter streets (great view and away from all the hustle and bustle). Ordered the coconut curry and carrot cake - so SO good! Highly...recommend this place, especially for vegansMore
