It’s a good place to start your culinary trip of bun cha. The bun cha itself is so so. How ever the nem Hai san is Devine. Nem Hai San means seafood and crab. Spring roll Anthony Bourdain put this shop On the map so...it’s priced a bit high for locals. Still it’s a good feed and a great place to start your bun cha addiction. Once you start. You can’t stop it’s soooo goodMore

On New Year, my family visited Hanoi for three days. We were excited to try Bun Cha Huong Lien, which Obama had tried before. It turned out not good as we expected and 2 members in my family had stomachache later that night. Personally, I...think it is too popular for its own good. The food is fine, however, the soup goes with rice noodles was cold. I don't think there is any good point that I can mention here. They charge a bit higher than other cause the popularity. Not recommend this restaurant.More

My family & dined at this restaurant in Feb 2020. Like most people, we had to try it after seeing the Anthony Bourdain episode where he dined there with Obama. The food was good, but I think fame has gotten the best of this place....It was very large with many levels (I think they’ve expanded since Obama visited). We knew it was a very busy place, so we arrived between lunch & dinner so we wouldn’t need to wait. Although there was no wait, all the workers were so rushed to get people in and out quickly that it didn’t feel like the nice relaxing meal we were looking for. Also, the popularity of the place allows them to charge a bit higher than other places, so they do. We had a much better experience at Bun Cha Ta restaurant, which we visited twice on our trip and is closer to Hoan Kiem Lake and most hotels as well, so we’d recommend there over Bun Cha Huang Lien.More

In our opinion this place now relies heavily on its Obama association and is 100% lacking in any charm, charisma and service it once had! On top of that.. the food is gross. It's been taken over by tourism and clearly forgotten its routes, its...a shame, definitely give it a miss! It's fairly hard to find for a start and a little out the way, the service is most definitely not with a smile, its not particularly clean, not efficient and not tasty. I can't honestly think of any good aspects. I would really recommend looking out for places locals go or even doing some sort of food tour to try some good bun cha!More

Friends told us about this place, we were forewarned that it is a no nonsense in and out kind of place made famous by Anthony Boudain and Obama... being In The restaurant trade and food lovers we decided to give it a try.. on arrival...there was no welcome just directed to go upstairs. The only empty table was next to the toilet and in the door way ... we debated whether to stay and against our better judgement ordered the Obama bun cha within two minutes it was delivered to the table !!! Or should I stay plonked on the table with 2 burnt and very greasy seafood crepes and 2 bowls of Luke warm and too sweet bun cha with a pile of sticky cold noodles.... we instantly lost our apetites and asked for the bill ..... the waitress is obviously used to this reaction and made no attempt to ask if there was a problem .. why should she.they thrive on the Boudain/Obama reputation which I believe has long since lost its charm and quality. We love Asian street food and local dishes but unfortunately not this time. I suggest you concentrate less on customer turnover and more on service and quality.More

If Anthony Bordain felt this restaurant was presidential worthy, we had to make a visit as well. We enjoyed a delicious, no-nonsense dinner with friends, at a reasonable price. Packed with diners, we were led to a table on the 2nd level. Do search out...the area which has been encased in fiberglass, where President Obama and Anthony Bordain shared their famous meal. Upon paying the cashier as we departed, the ladies attempted to overcharge me for my husband's and my meal. Be aware, but don't let that prevent the experience of dining there.More

Even if this was not the place visited by Obama and Bordain, it would still be special! Bustling, small restaurant spread over 2 floors with freshly made Bun Cha that is as tasty as can be. Lots of atmosphere and fun here as well. Filled...with locals as well as tourists.More

To be honest, I did not eat there. I just wanted to be in the place where Anthony Bourdain and President Obama had eaten a meal together. The staff was very friendly and allowed me to go upstairs to take photographs. I wish I wasn’t...full from lunch a couple of hours previously!More

Like many we went for its fame. What a mistake. The food was ok. The service was absolutely a nightmare. The food came out and we had to wait 10 min for the sauce. The waitress was no friendly. They are yelling among themselves. It...was like a zoo with unfriendly service. Please skip it until these folks clean up their act. Horrible. Very bad experience.More

Anthony Bourdain really knew how to spot the best eats in a country. He popularised this place but the best thing was that, in spite of its fame, the restaurant is still serving good, authentic Vietnamese food. There are some really loud Americans and some...annoying group tours but overall the food and the service is still autentique. Never change it pleaseMore

Don't get me wrong, isn't a bad Bun Cha, but to be honest you can find better ones in very traditional style restaurants. The price is very good to be honest, due to the popularity, however the staff isn't the nicest one, maybe are tired...of tourist. It was the first time after long time in Vietnam that staff was rude with me.More

There is nothing vegan available at all. They serve a single dish of pork in fish sauce with a side available of pork and crab spring rolls.

They just have one dish and that dish is the "bun cha" which is a grilled pork dish w/ vegetables. Being in a foreign country, I would suggest you stay away from raw vegetables. If you are a vegetarian, this is not a place... More
