We went here for the iconic egg coffee, this place is pretty much infamous for. However, it seems to constantly be crowded by tourists - rather than locals, understandable really although, we prefer to trust in places that we can see the "people" also do....It seems to rely heavily on walking tours for its business and for the price, I would have thought it could provide better atmosphere and decor. Its down a dinghy little alley that seems a bit intimidating, like you're walking somewhere you shouldn't, I am a smoker but it absolutely stinks and is clouded with cigarette, pipe and roll up smoke. The stairs are so narrow and again, it feels like you're going somewhere you really shouldn't, its fairly dirty and has zero atmosphere. The service was okay - they were smiley and pleasant but we found better egg coffee elsewhere as it wasn't particularly tasty here either unfortunately.More

We went here for the egg coffee, of course. It seemed like a place locals went - we were the only tourists in the house. It’s a little funny to get to - you walk into the building to the back staircase and up a...flight but I think that adds to the charm of it! We sat on small wooden stools and tables and enjoyed our coffee - it had a beautiful design on top and tasted very sweet with a whipped texture. I would definitely prefer this as an afternoon pick-me-up or as a dessert after dinner.More

Was looking for a real experience for egg coffee in Hanoi and found this place with really good reviews but sadly is just another super touristic spot, the coffee was ok but didn't feel real, no local people would come here.

If you are into your coffee then this is the place to stop in Hanoi. The owner of the cafe who is 92 still runs the place with his family and he is the inventor of the Egg Coffee. Invented in the late 40's a...competition was set up to find a way to make a new type of coffee because there was a shortage of one of the main ingredients. Made with condensed milk, sugar and of course coffee it won the the competition and the owner and the cafe went on to become a household name and legend. Located across from the lake in the heart of Hanoi it is definitely a place you must visit. Rustic and basic and very reasonable prices. I highly recommend this place to you coffee lovers. This is the essence of what good coffee is all about. Enjoy!!! CaryMore

The only place still connected to the family who invented egg coffee. This is a funky upstairs cafe, through a small doorway. You sit on small stalls around a small table, making new friends as you are all squeezed in. It makes for a great...atmosphere! The coffee is cheap and very tasty! It is a work of art in itself! This page would not be out of place in Shoreditch, Hoxton or even Peckham! A must whilst you are there!More

We visited with a guide the first time, I had asked about egg coffee and he said this was one of around only 2 places in Hanoi to find really good egg coffee. Without the guide we would have never considered going. Don’t be put...off by the passage way or staircase and surroundings this place is a gem. It’s been a family business for years hence the true traditional egg coffee. After our first visit we went straight back the next day.More

Quintessential Hanoi experience Came here with our walking food tour guide and it was so memorable. While I didn’t partake of the egg coffee my husband loved it. The original owner came up with the egg coffee idea after WW II and now it’s his...offspring who run it. The story or how and why it developed is fascinating and a real example of Vietnamese creativity and resourcefulness. With every experience you understand how they defeated The Mongols, The French and The AmericansMore

Excellent old school egg coffee and atmosphere. Trying finding it. It’s worth it! Look for a little passageway just to the left of a small luggage store at the top of the lake.

It took us a couple of minutes to figure out the exact location of this place although we were using GPS that's because the entry to the building is just a single doorway. It is bang opposite the lake & if you are here on...weekends, the lake area it's abuzz with people & a lot of food stalls as well. This place does look shabby & the building looks like it's in ruins & will crumble any time, but trust me their coffee is amazing & very cheap. It's very difficult to get a table here just for yourself, so just grab any vacant stool & try to make yourself comfortable. It's always busy at Cafe Dinh but the service is quick. We tried their Egg Coffee @ 25k & Coffee with Condensed milk @ 20k. Absolutely loved their Egg coffee & it's pretty reasonable so YOU GOTTA TRY THIS!!More

Cafe Dinh was the best egg coffee I had in vietnam. Even though it is touristy, it is good coffee at a great price. A cool, authentic vibe as well.

I don't think you can find a dinner here. This place only have drinks if i reckon correctly. But you can find other nearby restaurants. Cheers!
