About
“This restaurant is a dedication to my wife’s grandmother and to all Vietnamese women of the past and the present. It is also a tribute to their way of cooking, their ancestral culture and the artisanal knowledge of over one thousand years. The rich diversity of Vietnam, found in its two deltas, fifty four minorities, three thousand kilometres of coastline and many natural resources (rivers, forests, mountains, oceans) is reflected in its cuisine. Discover Mothers cuisine though the perfume of the 36 streets

A terrific introduction to Hanoi! 36 Streets tasting menu was wonderful! The caramelized-sauced, clay pot-cooked prawn was among the tastiest dishes I enjoyed in Vietnam. (My most disappointing meal in Vietnam was at Didier Corlou’s restaurant in Hoi An.)More

It was my second time to visit this restaurant. The first time in 2015 and this time in 2020. Our experience of both times were excellent. The restaurant is at the old-style house of Hanoi, well renovated, still nostalgic. The service is very good. The...food is traditional Vietnamese, sophistically seasoned and decorated on traditional plates. If you want to experience the good old days Vietnamese restaurant, unlike the recently developed roof-top places, this is the place to recommend for you.More

My hotel recommended this place. I absolutely loved it. The courtyard is such a lovely place to eat. My food was beautiful and despite being busy came really quickly. Service was great. Good wine list. Will be back next visit.More

We ate at Didier Corlou’s Spices Verticale and absolutely loved it so had to try Madame Hien. We were seated on the patio by Didier’s son, who apparently manages this restaurant. I had the eight-course tasting menu and was hooked after my first bite. I...confess I ate the entire braised caramelized prawn including the shell – first time for the shell and it was delicious. Our party of four drank their last Sauvignon Blanc, then their last Torrontes before finishing with an excellent Viognier. So the wine list was adequate. This was probably the best meal we had in Hanoi.More

I agreed with one of the reviews that I had higher expectation as it was referred by an English friend. This is definitely a place for the Western tourists as there's no Vietnamese around at all, not many Asian either. We ordered 2 set dinners...- too big to finish. The food is okay, not bad but not impressive either. Staff seem busy all the time.More

Interesting place, we sat outside which was a little cold but had lots of character. My mixed plate of starters was excellent, my husband loved his duck 3 ways and my sea bass was wrapped in leaves and cooked beautifully with a mango sauce. On...the down side the service was slow and the toilets were grubby.More

The restaurant is located almost directly in front of my hotel. I walked by it several time but always thought it is a temple because the decor of the entrance looks like a temple gate. Today, out of curiosity I stopped and looked inside and found...out it is a restaurant, in the front year of a nice colonial French villa. We looked at the menu display at the entrance and went in to try the foods. We ordered two three-course lunch menus. I picked Vietnamese salad for starter, egg plant hot pot for main course and hot banana cake with ice cream. My hubby ordered mushroom rolls for starter, canard a l’orange (a duck leg confit) and also banana cake w/ice cream for desert and a glass of 2015 bordeaux (Cabernet Sauvignon). It was an excellent mean for both of us for a total of about $30.00 (the charge for the glass of wine was a little “stiff” at $8). The place clean, good ambiance, and great service. When you are tired of “pho” every day, I highly recommend this restaurant for change.More

4,951,100 VND. Four adults, one four-course dinner, one eight-course, appetizers, entrees and desserts for the other two. Three bottles of wine. You can certainly eat there for less, but it was worth every Dong.
