Our guide suggested the New Day Restaurant as one of his favourites while in Hanoi and that we needed to try the BBQ Hot Pot. It was in a good location in the Old Quarters. When we arrived the place was just hopping. So we figured it would be a bit before we saw our food & drinks. We had Hung as our server. He was so much fun. He was very friendly, funny and helpful. His English was excellent. Our drinks arrived quickly and were cold and refreshing. They took my mushroom allergy very seriously. Our food arrived quickly as well and all of the ingredients were very fresh & crunch. He showed us how it is done in Vietnam (cooking technique) and away we went. It is differently a bit different than home. Hung and other staff members where always swinging by the table to check in on us and having lots of laughs. We tried the Beef & Pork Combo for 4 people. It also came with oil, butter, bread, lettuce, rice, pineapple, green onions, tomatoes and 2 dipping sauces (I think I am missing something as well)
The Beef & Pork combo for 4 guests was 500,000VND ($29.50CAD). Personally, I felt like it was a far prices for all the food we received and the experience. I would highly recommend trying it!

Our tour guide told us to pick a resto that was full of people as it would be an indication that the food was good. We passed this resto on our 1st night but it was just too full. We went back on our last night and we were able to get a table outside. We ordered the set menu which was good for 2 people and costs about 155,000 dong or roughly 400 pesos. They served the usual Vietnamese food - pho, fried spring rolls, sauteed beef and vegetables with steamed rice and a dessert of custard or leche flan.

Loved this little restaurant about two blocks my hotel. Live neighborhood. The cost was moderate food plentiful beautiful and tasty; served steaming. Staff was friendly and efficient. Visited multiple times; best pho of my life!!!

We knew it wouldn’t be amazing but were tired and just needed a seat. If you want tourist fried rice and a small plate of pork ribs for VND 250,000 then come here. But don’t fly all the way to Vietnam to let this be your experience of Vietnamese food. Have a beer and watch the passing parade but don’t eat here.

our second night in Hanoi, no idea where we were going to go to eat but this was three minutes walk from our hotel. What an absolute gem! We had the spring rolls, pork ribs, chicken and cashew nuts, beef noodles and rice all washed down with Hanoi beer.
Reasonably priced, superb food -we cleared our plates- exceptionally friendly staff even with the restaurant full, a very good standard of English spoken by several of the staff. We fully intend to eat there tomorrow.

Nothing really to complain about except the food was average, almost below average as I’ve eaten some amazing things in little street stalls. The staff were nice and it was fairly cheap though. I’d go elsewhere...

Our family came here on recommendation of a friend. We were glad that we came. You can order a là carte, fixed menu for one or two persons, or order dishes to eat family style. We opted for the last choice. This was easy since the dishes are prepared and on display. All we had to do was point at what we wanted. The dishes are typical Vietnamese family fares, ranging from vegetables to pork, chicken, beef, shrimp, fish etc. The staff even suggested we order less rather than more (a case of our eyes being bigger than our stomach.) Everything we ordered was excellent except the skewered pork which was tough. It was a fun meal. We were able to sample a good range of Vietnamese dishes without breaking the bank. The total bill, with drinks, was 1.1 million dong. This amount would not pay for a single dinner in Monterey, California or Frankfurt, Germany where I was just prior to this trip to Việt Nam.

We made a couple of visits here on a recent trip to Hanoi. Great food reasonably priced washed down with large bottles of Hanoi beer or a Margarita. Staff very friendly and helpful. Had the set menu which is very reasonable - ~£5-6 for Pho, spring rolls, a choice of main and a pud.

Consistently good food. I’ve tried pho bo and gah, fried rice, chicken , pork, spring rolls ... it’s all tasty!
Great friendly service and I love the atmosphere sitting outside.

We ate here as a change from Blue Butterfly and regretted it. The food was mediocre and I had a bad stomache in the early hours. Since my wife and I ate the same food except at this restaurant and she was fine, it is the most likely to be responsible. This is one up from street food and there are really better options for veggies like us.

People if you are after a great meal of traditional Vietnamese food, then this the place to go/ i ate here twice while on my stay in Hanoi/ I wasn't disappointed the meals were just divine. prices were excellent quality food was AAA+ friendly staff great service. A must do

We visited this restaurant on recommendation from our tour guide. The menu was huge. We sat outside on small stools and had a set menu and also a special. There was an immense amount of food which came out speediest and was very tasty the staff were very helpful and friendly

Nothing about the appearance of this place made me want to go in, but after taking the trouble to find it after reading the positive reviews, I decided to stay and eat. I chose what seemed to be the house special fried chicken with lemon grass and chilli - it was bland and very greasy and l left half of it. A big disappointment after the excellent lunch I had enjoyed at MET.

We absolutely loved our food and are so glad we chose to eat here. Our food was beautiful and full of flavour, it was cooked to perfection. I had the sautéed beef with garlic, my partner had the roasted chicken with chilli and lemongrass and we shared some deep fried chicken spring rolls - easily the best meals we’ve had in the whole of Vietnam! Service was very quick and we felt so welcomed from the staff who were really friendly. The food was also a great price - costing just over £12 for our two meals, side, and two soft drinks! Definitely a place to visit when in Hanoi!

The best thing about new day is the staff .
This used to be one of my favourite restaurants in Hanoi and if you can get a table on the street it is still a good experience .
I was surprised at the prices since my last visit and the quality of the food does not equal the price . It seems to be directed at tourists with tourist prices whereas traditionally it has always been a mix of tourists and locals .
