My wife and I dined at Calles last night. I ordered the surf and turf. The presentation was pleasant enough, but the steak was not medium as I ordered but very rare. I summoned the waitress, she apologized and took my steak to the kitchen....When she returned it was steaming hot and as I cut into it I realized they had microwaved it and not put it back on the grill! I made an attempt to eat a piece but it was now like leather so they sent the manager over. When I began to tell her what happened she interrupted me saying she knew the story but it looked like I had already eaten some of it. Before I could respond to what was an insinuation thatI was after a free meal, she offered me a free dessert. Well, I didn’t want a free dessert, I wanted a decent meal! Don’t bother wasting your time or money at this place. The Beefeater and Patrick’s are next door and a much better choice but we didn’t have a reservation.More
Went there Christmas eve with my family for dinner.
Good starters and the service was great up to the point when we complained on a poor tasteless, rubber pice of meet.
Owner hide behind his desk, until i decided to leave the almost untouched “Wooden...platter steak”, letting them
know we where not paying for it.
Sad with all these restaurants putting the quality level to “guest likely never to return anyway”.More
It was an evening special, but I thought I must to try it anyway and mentioned it in the BCP....
Starter: Toast Skagen
Main: “Steak Gorgonzola”
200 gr Argentinian beef tenderloin.
Served with red wine sauce, Gorgonzola cheese, and French fries, or potato gratin.
......and the restaurant ( Calle ) was kind enough to reply on my post, they can reproduce me it... So went with a choosy friend to try it...
I remembered only on the word „ skagen „ so looked for an egg silly me... no matter, the tosat skaged looked nice and we started... and our breath stopped... it was so marvellous. I had a few skagens, but this was the very best from all of them.... fine tastes on the perfectly made toast...
The main event, the Steak gorgonzola was served really stylish, I was glad to look on it... A burly piece of fine tenderloin in a sensational red wine sauce ... I can feel the smell and the taste or the wine it total harmony with the beefish taste of the meat... The flavor of the melted gorgonzola on the top created the food porn feeling... Only one light criticism... We asked our steak „ medium rare „ and my friend thought it was medium... I can’t comment, I’m not an expert, but I liked it. Unfortunately I forgot about the side dish options ( french fries or potato gratin ) and we were served with french fries, which is ... IMO ... derogatory for such a noble food composition... never mind, it was great to dunk out the vine sauce already mixed with the gorgonzola... until the last molecule...
My friend’s TG ordered Beef stroganoff for an inscrutable reason ( she orders always thai food ) ... probably the waitress recommended her... I tried a bite and I liked it very much, however it wasn’t a beef stroganoff I know. I start to think, I misunderstood something, because it’s the second swedish restaurant I try this food and they were similar, but still not what I know... However she don’t really liked it, but when the prik nam pla bowl arrived, she sprinkled it with the chili chunks and the juice – whilst me and my friend was in shock from the view – her face became happy and she gobbled it all...
My friend also ordered a panna cotta, but arrived something different, some kind of brownie with a sauce... I saw on his face the dark clouds, because of the plate he saw... but he tried it anyway and only one word left his mouth until the last crumb: sensational....
Toast skagen and Gorgonzola steak special: 699 baht, Beef stroganoff : 345 baht, I couldn’t find the unknown dessert on their menu... Water: 30 bahtMore
Tried this place twice now, both times disappointed.
Very raw rib eye steak, only half the side steaked. Ordered medium raw.
Left without finish our dinner and had to pay full price. Staff were informed before we asked for the bill.
It was so nice to stumble across such a nice venue tucked away in a side street just off 2nd street, a breath of fresh air after dining of Thai food almost daily for the past week.
Calles is a great venue offering excellent food...and service, away from the noisy street cafes where the food is cheap and nasty. Best of all you don't get bothered by a continuous stream of vendors peddling fake watches, cheap art and who knows what else.
Will definitely return to Calles.
Well done guys, thanks for the excellent hospitality.More
One of my favourite in Pattaya, the Beef Rydberg ... tenderloin chunks with the fantastic mustard sauce and the " holy mess" ... potatoes, onions with a raw egg yolk... food porn... A friend had a chicken chasew nut... he just gushed, he never had...such a fantastic one...
Beef Rydberg: 390 baht, chicken with chasew nut ( including the rice) : 170 baht, water: 30 baht.More
