Have lived in Chiang Mai for 10 years and gone to Salsa Kitchen from the beginning of my stay. I love Mexican/Southwest American food and have searched for it throughout Thailand. In Chiang Mai there have really been only two choices, it was Salsa Kitchen...and it was Miguel's. There was an small, excellent place near Suthep Road at one point years ago, but it didn't last. And I'm sure there is or are other places around here, just haven't seen them. My take, as well as my local friends, is that the food at Salsa Kitchen is superior to anything else around this town. It's truly excellent. The drinks however are absolutely the worst Mexican restaurant style drinks ever. They are literally undrinkable. You will not finish yours because it is either too sweet beyond words or too sour beyond words, and probably a combination of both. That includes the margarita, the strawberry margarita, and the sangria. Simply awful. The service is mediocre at best. Not only is the staff normally uninterested in you, generally unfriendly, and lacking foresight with bringing utensils, napkins etc., the wait time is long, and the food will most times come out staggered so that you or your companions will not eat at the same time. I am not exaggerating, last week me and my girlfriend waited 1 and a half hours to get our food. This is a record, but waiting is generally the norm here. So it's a crazy conundrum. You want great food and bad everything else? Go to Salsa Kitchen. You want excellent drinks, great service, mediocre food, go to Miguel's. Simple as that.More
